Ok I rented this on an instinct that I'd be watching a pretty good movie, but afterwards it left me with an unsatisfied feeling...

If you liked the look of this movie, you should familiarize yourself with the paintings of Edward Hopper. Gordon Willis brilliantly captured the look and feel of Hopper's work. Especially fun to watch was the diner scene which morphed into the famous painting "Nighthawks".

This is an ambitious movie that unfortunately was not appreciated when it was first released. Twenty plus years later when movies like "Chicago" and "Moulin Rouge" are so popular, you should take another look at "Pennies from Heaven." It is brilliant movie-making and confirms that Steve Martin is a rare talent.
