The first time I used this strap it broke! The item floated quite well with the strap but the cord like material that attaches to the camera. I'm glad I was holding onto the camera when it broke or it would be in the bottom of the ocean somewhere.

Sounds like most people have good luck with this strap but be aware that it may be the salt water that reacts poorly to the strap.

All I can say, it works.
Dropped my wg-2 in the surf. It floated along until I got it.
Without it I would be still diving looking for my camera.

I attached this to my Kodak water proof camera, and it ensured that I would not loose my camera. Works very well.

Works as advertized Aug. 14 2009

I bought this to use with my Sanyo Xacti VPC-E2 Digital Camcorder and 8 MP Digital Camera (Blue). The strap is sufficiently buoyant that even with the camera attached it still floats at the surface. If I wanted to play with my daughter I could take the thing off my wrist and set it off to the side. When I wanted to take some pictures a few minutes later it was still there, floating patiently, waiting for me. (Wish I could say the same for my daughter but she's 11 months old and sinks like a rock.)

The strap also has a quick disconnect feature. It allows you to easily disconnect the camera and supplied short cord from the wrist strap. However, it is very diffucult to reconnect it without help. (It's easy to uncouple but difficult to reconnect with one hand.)

UPDATE: It's a year later and I just got back from a beach/pool vacation. The wrist strap and Sanyo camera are still working fine. With continued use I've come to appreciate the bright yellow color of this wrist strap. It not only makes it easy to spot my camera floating in the pool but also in my suitcase or sitting someplace in the hotel room. Saddly, my daughter, now almost two, still sinks like a rock unless she's wearing her Swimways Soft Swimmies (Colors May Vary).

All kidding aside, for < $10 this is a "must have" addition for any waterproof camera.

UPDATE: Another 2 1/2 years have gone by and we're packing to head to the beach. My daughter still needs her Swimmies (gotta fix that soon), I made the mistake of buying a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS10 14.1 MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.7-Inch LCD (Black) to replace the Sanyo, and this strap is still going strong.

UPDATE: Another year has gone by and it's time to get ready for a trip to the beach. I replaced the unfortunate Panasonic Lumix with a (very nice) Pentax Optio WG-2. When I went to take the strap off the old camera to put I the Pentax I couldn't find it. Interestingly, my main regret is that I'll have to buy a new floating wrist strap :) . Of course all I did was order another one of these.

BTW, I feel that honest, effective reviews can take the place of first-hand experiences that are lacking in online shopping. I've always appreciated the help I've received from other reviewers and work hard to return the favor as best as I can. I hope you found this review helpful and if there was anything you thought was lacking or unclear leave a comment and I'll do what I can to fix it.

Worked on the river... June 11 2009

I bought this strap for my Pentax W60 so that I could feel a little bit better about taking the camera white water rafting regularly. The waterproof camera is amazing and being able to strap it on with a floating strap is even better! It was nice having my camera out to catch the wildlife along the river without having to take it out of case. It did indeed float with my camera attached when I tested it out on a relatively calm portion of river. I'm very glad I bought this strap.

A Must Have for the Open Ocean Aug. 9 2010

I bought this for my Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS2 and my trip to the Carribean.

I almost didn't get a floating strap, but I'm glad I did. In the ocean, there is so much going on, and I was glad that this had a wrist strap that could securely hold the camera on my wrist. When they dropped us in the deep water on our snorkeling tour, I was glad I didn't have to worry about my camera because waves were knocking me around and I was still adjusting my snorkel gear, etc.

In the calm waters, I tested to make sure my Lumix camera would float, and it did with this strap.

I think it's worth a few bucks to make sure your camera doesn't sink to the bottom of the ocean.

Floating camera strap Jan. 27 2010

First time out with my new waterproof Pentax camera and I didn't want to take any chances of losing it while snorkeling. Thought this strap would be just the answer. Easy to attach to the camera and easy to get on and off my wrist. even thought I never tested to see just how long or far I'd allow it to get away from me. It sure gave me extra extra confidence that I wouldn't and didn't lose it. Good product.

Floats our Canon D10 July 4 2010
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
We have used this strap in the pool with our Canon D10. Snaps right on the camera perfectly. It's not too cumbersome, fits around my smaller wrist and works perfectly. The camera was always floating whenever we put it down to play around in the pool, even when the kids would create quite a few waves in the water. The pictures submitted by Tom D. portray accurately how ours worked with the D10 attached. We trust it and will be taking it with us when we snorkel in Hawaii for our vacation this year!
