Product Description

Gr 4-8 In this adaptation of Riordan's novel (Hyperion, 2006), Camp Half-Blood's borders have been poisoned, and Percy is off on a quest to find the healing Golden Fleece. The detailed, realistic art in full, rich color will appeal to fans of superhero comics: it is perfectly suited to the story's many action and fight scenes, none of which depict graphic violence. Fans of George O'Connor's "Olympians" series (First Second) may enjoy this similarly irreverent, action-packed view of Greek mythology. The text is succinct and witty, and there are many wordless scenes, including a few stunning pages in which Percy's friend Annabeth encounters the Sirens. Both high in quality and sure to be popular, this is a first purchase. Lisa Goldstein, Brooklyn Public Library, NY—SLJ --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

The art is stunning; I often had to take a minute to just admire the work before actually reading a page. The characters and scenery were depicted exactly how the source novels described them as.

The dialogue, just like the pictures, was taken directly from the novels as well, often word for word.

Although they obviously needed to condense things a bit, it follows the same storyline, and all of the key events are present.

This is a must-have for any fans of the books. Even if you're not one for graphic novels, I guarantee this may change your perspective a bit. As for those who haven't read the novels, this is a good way to jump into the world of Percy Jackson all the same.

Sea of Monsters Graphic Novel July 3 2013
A Kid's Review - Published on
Format: Hardcover
Well I had my reservations about this book as The Lightning Thief graphic novel was great but not awesome, but this book is AWESOME! It is SO to the actual book...I can only think of two scenes they skipped 1: The monster donut shop battle and 2: The letter from Poseidon delivered to Percy by Hermes the rest would be being too picky. The characters look Brilliant Tyson and Thalia are just as described and the illustrations are FAB! This book is plain BRILLIANT!
Very well done graphic novel adaptation of the book! Jan. 31 2014

I read all of the Percy Jackson books some time ago. Then lat year I picked up the graphic novel of The Lightning Thief and really enjoyed it. I was excited to see that the 2nd Percy Jackson book had also been converted to graphic novel. The authors have done an excellent job of converting the novel to graphic novel format. The illustration is wonderful and I really enjoyed reading this.

Things are going relatively well for Percy at school (for once). Then Annabeth brings news that the tree that guards Camp Half Blood has been poisoned. Percy and friends must journey across the Sea of Monsters to find the cure.

This is the book where Tyson joins the story and I have always enjoyed his character. Those who have read the full length novel version of this story already know what’s going on here….so I am not going to discuss that a ton.

Needless to say this adventure involves many of our favorite Percy Jackson characters including Percy, Annabeth, Grover, and Clarisse.

The illustration throughout this graphic novel is in beautiful full color, illustrated with great detail, and just beautiful. The adaptation of the story is well done and hits all the high points of the story very nicely. It was fun to revisit this series in graphic novel format and I really enjoyed reading this.

Overall an absolutely excellent graphic novel adaptation of The Sea of Monsters. I really enjoyed both the story and the beautiful illustration. Highly recommend to those who love fantasy graphic novels. Of course I would recommend reading the full length novel first (since all of those books are pretty darn good) and then reading this as a way to revisit the story.

This is a great way to get a visual idea of the event that happen in the book.

But, if your gonna get this read the book also, the book explains the characters emotion on situations that the comic really doesn't bring out. Some of the chapters seem to be chopped up and take out some little things but, not anything really damaging to the story. Every important details is shown, only thing it doesn't do for me is express the emotion in the characters, like you get from reading the book, that I like to read, which is to be expected.

This is must buy! A million times better than the movie, but the novel is the best way to enjoy these stories. Still a must buy for Percy Jackson fans who enjoy the story and wanna get a visual of the story.

One child is a reader and loves the Percy Jackson series. One child is NOT a reader, but was attracted to this book and loved it. I would recommend this to those children that do not read much, but need to meet a goal (such as AR) or may need a little boost to find something exciting and interesting to read before taking on a full scale novel. One disappointment is the book is only like a 1.0 point for AR, but that's minor and somewhat understandable.
Great to lure a lazy reader to the book! May 2 2014

My daughter is always trying to avoid reading chapter books at almost 9 this is a problem! I found these Percy Jackson graphic novels and hurrah! she is more interested in these than a traditional book and they are enough to keep her engaged. Although I need to continue her transition to the written novels, this is a good 'bridge' and plus, they are fun and enjoyable for kids as well!
