Book Description

Newly revised and expanded, this best-selling guide to perennials, ferns, and ornamental grasses remains an indispensable reference for new gardeners or garden professionals. At the heart of the book is a comprehensive directory of perennials available in Canada and the US. Reflecting the improved varieties of recent years, this directory includes many new plants, making it the most complete and up-to-date guide available. The fully illustrated directory is supplemented by information on soil and site requirements, garden design, caring for your garden throughout the year, and preventing pests and diseases. This book has everything you need to know about perennials, choosing plants, and caring for your garden.

From the Publisher

Our goal in publishing the 'Perennial Gardening Guide' was to produce the best pictorial perennial guide available to North American gardeners. Since we produce millions of perennials each year, and grow over 2000 different varieties, species and genera, we have the many years of experience and knowledge required to produce an authoritative reference book. We also felt that an excellent perennial guide needed to have lots of good pictures, so we combed our photo archives to come up with over 530 color photographs. We felt it was also important to only present plants commercially available in the USA and Canada. Finally, the cost of the book needed to be priced low enough to provide exceptional value.

Judging by the excellent sales of the first two editions, we have achieved our objectives. This third edition describes many new varieties introduced over the last few years, as well as adding an index which matches common names with the botanical Latin. This book was designed to appeal from everyone from novice gardeners to perennial experts. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars A 'carry to the nursery' book, Jun 5 2002
By A Customer
I take this book to the nursery for its succinct descriptions of all you need to know before you purchase a new plant. You can select plants knowing their habits (good and bad) and know if they will do well in your region. Illustrations are well selected and the pages on Hostas are a delight. This is the most useful book on perennials I have purchased so far.

4.0 out of 5 stars Informative - good reference book, Jun 19 2011
This review is from: Perennial Gardening Guide (Paperback)
This is a very handy reference tool. I learned some tips already and will use it in the future. I only wish the pictures were a little larger.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST PERENNIAL BOOK EVER!, May 19 2011
By
SonShine (London, Ontario) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Perennial Gardening Guide (Paperback)
Absolutely the best perennial gardening book I've found. Very up to date. Gives all pertinent information, ie. zone, sun/shade, soil and moisture requirements, attractiveness to hummingbirds and butterflies. Beautifully illustrated. Covers plants for Zones 2 - 7. My favorite garden center has laminated its pages and it's on display as THE reference text. I've given at least 6 copies as gifts to gardening friends. Highly recommended.
