Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

Following Wrapped in Wishes, her delightful twist on time travel, Bicos has opted for romantic thrillers. But in providing the elements of both romance and suspense, Bicos has tended to weigh down her books. Here, Bicos puts all the puzzle pieces on the table, making the first 80 pages markedly less than romantic or thrilling. Cherish Malone works for the company designing the wing of an experimental plane. A year and a half before, the prototype had crashed, bringing pilot Conor Mitchell and co-pilot Alec Porter into her life. Alec loved her, she loved Conor, and Conor left her at the altar. Then Alec e-mails her that he's in danger, but Conor discovers Cher is the one in danger and the two are forced together to solve a mystery that involves alien abductees, Russian scientists, a renegade governmental operative and an unscrupulous businessman. In the final tally, the book is rather longer on suspense than on romance. The romance that's there veers from being sensually satisfying to unconvincingly rococo?what man would think, "What was it Proust had said? The taste of the madeleine... that's what it had been like. Tasting her. Remembering. Feeling it all over again, that wild ride of the heart"?

Cherish, Conor and Alec survived a deadly plane crash in which Conor took the blame, Alec disappeared, and Cherish's life changed forever. A year later, another crash and a mysterious message reunite Cherish with the two men from her past: Alec, the man who loved her, and Conor, the lover who betrayed her. Together, they must stop a terrorist from killing again. But as the investigation unfolds, Cherish's faith is put to the test as she tries to decide if one of the men she trusts could be the killer.

4.0 out of 5 stars complex, exciting romance thriller, Sep 9 2000

This review is from: Perfect Timing (Paperback)
I like Olga Bicos but I find you've got to chose her books carefully - some work better than others. This one is my very favourite of hers. It is quite complicated plot wise, and benefits from more than one reading, but it has a great love affair with genuine tension and complexity in it.

Cherish is a thoroughly believable heroine, who is traumatised by her involvement in a tragic airplane crash a year ago. She has family and friends (I always hate it when the heroine mysteriously has neither!) and a decent career, but a miserable private life. Alex who professed to love her, has disappeared. And Conor, who is a most delicious hero, seems to have betrayed her.

The secondary characters are also well fleshed and interesting. Conor's sister, Geena, eventually reveals that the reason she is so furious with Cherish is because she feels that Cherish never fought sufficiently for her brother. It's an interesting exploration of what love and trust and faith mean within a relationship.

Having said that, it is also a fast moving, taut thriller, with loads more science than I understood, and a good ending. You were sad to let the lovers go, and wanted to spend more time with them - always the sign of a keeper. The reason it's only 4 stars is that it is a bit plot heavy on first reading. If you are looking for some mindless fluff, this is not for you, but if you want something to get your teeth into, romantically speaking, then snap it fast!

4.0 out of 5 stars brilliant storytelling... an author to watch, Sep 5 2000

This review is from: Perfect Timing (Paperback)
This was the first novel I have read by this author and once I began I was unable to put it down. The story is amazingly well crafted and not the usual run of the mill romance/thriller. The author has obviously paid a great deal of attention to researching aeronatical engineering which pays off in a completely plausible storyline. She has a great syle of writing and I am looking forward to reading more of her work. The only criticism I had was that I found the secondary hero to be much more appealing than the main hero who seemed a bit bland in comparison. Don't let this put you off though as he is still to die for.I can only hope that Ms Bicos will be writing Alec's story ASAP as he badly needs a good woman to reform him...but not too much!

4.0 out of 5 stars Hard to put down., Aug 22 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Perfect Timing (Paperback)
First book by her I've read. Enjoyed it immensely. Her characters were fleshed out well but still retained an element of mystery about them. I particularly enjoyed the way she combined the supernatural element with the purely scientific. Discussed it with my engineer husband and he was quite impressed with my "newfound knowledge" about aerospace engineering! The main male character was actually not as interesting as the secondary male lead and Allison was a confusing character. Other than that it was a great read and I've already bought 2 earlier novels of hers to read as well.
