4.0 out of 5 stars Haven't used yet - but I like June 17 2013

Dog doesn't like it... but he's never liked cages! This one is BIG. Bigger than I anticipated. However I could easily fit 2 pits into it and they'd be comfortable. Overall a purchase I didn't need, but enjoyed getting for those spontaneous road trips where my dog needs a kennel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great kitty hut!!! June 27 2008

I bought these to put my cats in when we have to go into the basement for storm warnings, instead if trying to frantically cram them into their cat carriers. They all love it so much we keep these set up for them to hang out in all the time. Very well made, easy to set up and take down. I bought the larger size (36x24)for my bigger male cats, which leaves room for a litter box or food dishes if we are hanging out for a longer time, and the smaller one for my female cat. Comes with a nice fleece pad as well as a waterproof pad.

5.0 out of 5 stars Trained dogs May 21 2010

This is a great crate for travel and for dogs that will NOT chew things. This is not a wire crate. I have had puppies and dogs that chew. I would not recommend putting a dog that chews in a crate like this and expect it to hold up. (I've learned what not to do over the years! LOL) The crate serves its purpose very well for what it was designed for. I would not expect any puppy unsupervised to not destroy this crate. Enjoy this well made crate! A lot of us use them at dog shows. It's portable and durable!

1.0 out of 5 stars Generation 2 soft dog crate Aug. 13 2008

I have had 3 different crates sent to me and all 3 had damaged zippers when they arrived. The zippers are stuck and split when trying to zip open or shut. Very poor quality item.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice concept, poor execution March 16 2011

I purchased this crate from a pet store for my 60 lb labradoodle, planning to take it with us for camping and visits to the in-laws. I have a small car and a big dog, so I didn't want to be lugging a huge metal crate along with us, so a soft crate is a nice alternative. My dog's a shy girl, so I bought it a month before we'd need to use it to give her time to get used to it and enjoy hanging out in it. Here's my best assessment:

Pros:
Pretty light weight, easy to carry. Clips to keep it folded down when you're transporting it.
Like the bags/pouches that are included. They're a good start for some of the dog stuff I have to drag along with me.
Like having 3 ways to access the dog/give treats: side flap, front flap, and "sun roof."
Like the reversible pad that's included to set in the bottom, though it's not thick enough to provide real padding.

Cons:
Velcro on the netting to hold up the flaps, only in the center of the mesh so the sides droop down.
Shorter than other soft crates, so the dog has to duck her head when she stands
Biggest con: the bars didn't lock completely straight and would partially collapse after a few minutes, even when the dog wasn't in the crate. For my scaredy girl, if that had happened even once while she was in there, it would take me months to get her used to it.

I ended up returning this crate to the store. It may be that I got a defective one, but the issue with the bars just wasn't worth the extra training it would take me to get the pup used to it. Other than that, it's pretty nice.

4.0 out of 5 stars These crates fit my needs! June 10 2012

I needed new travel crates for my two Boxers ... we go to obedience classes, fun matches, and trials. I wanted something lightweight and easy to set up/tear down. I researched a bunch of them.

The Pet Gear Generation II Deluxe Portable Soft Crate is just what I wanted and I'm very pleased. I got this one (green) for my boy and the next smaller size (blue) for my girl.

Pros: *Very lightweight
*Easy to set up and tear down
*Great ventilation
*Sturdy - at least as sturdy as you can get with a soft-sided crate
*Carrying handle
*Stores and transports easily because of fairly compact size
*Two removable bags for carrying stuff

Cons: *Top tends to sag a little, but doesn't crate a problem
*Included pad is worthless - and hot. I just throw in a dog blanket or bathroom rug (and leave it in the crate when I collapse it down).

All in all, I'm very pleased with this purchase. But here's a WARNING: If your dog chews or uses his paws a lot, he could well destroy this crate. The mesh is relatively thick, but NO mesh (except wire) is going to withstand chewing or digging.

TIP: When you get a new crate, set it up and let your dog explore first. Do NOT force her into it right off the bat. After the initial exploration (so the dog can get used to the look/smell of the crate), open the door and allow further exploration. Then toss in a toy or treat. In other words, let your dog get used to it before you want her to go in there. Otherwise, you may be setting yourself up for the Great Escape and a destroyed crate. This tip comes from first-hand experience. :)
