Big carrier for my huge cat March 22 2010
By Jane Rosenthal - Published on Amazon.com
Color: Sage Verified Purchase
I have a very large, over 25 pounds cat and I have been looking for a carrier that was big enough for him. This carrier fit the bill. It's a little bit taller than I expected (I was focused more on the width & depth measurements), so it is a nice size. It seems too big for airline travel, but it worked well for taking my kitty to the vet - he could move around comfortably and wasn't smushed up like the standard sized carrier I used to get him home from the pound. I really like that it is on wheels or can be comfortably used as a backback, but it seems too big and bulky to use the shoulder strap. It could use some more padding on the bottom (I folded up an old towel), and I didn't try the leash tether.

Don't Buy It As a Wheeled Carrier June 30 2011
By Steven Berretta - Published on Amazon.com
Color: Sage Verified Purchase
For those of you planning to use this as a wheeled carrier - save your money - don't buy it, it's junk. The second time I used it with my small Bichon the wheels fell off and I was forced to carry it. When I called Pet Gear (a.k.a. Vermont Juvenile Furniture) they informed me that the wheels are NOT covered by their 30-day warranty and they are NOT available as replacement parts. The short 30-day warranty should have been a tip off. I imagine Pet Gear became so tired of replacing wheels that they just stopped offering them. So much for a company that stands behind their product.

Also, why do some reviewers (see JB1 on 8/15/2010) 'highly recommend' this product when they admit they have not used it? These reviews are a sham and bogus. Fake reviews like these have no value and are not helpful at all. Except maybe if it's Pet Gear reviewing their own product. Please don't 'highly recommend' something that you have not used. It's deceptive and misleading and it basically makes your review worthless.

As a backpack - good for dog, uncomfortable for person Dec 28 2010
By Shop4Me - Published on Amazon.com
Color: Sage Verified Purchase
I purchased this product to use primarily as a backpack. I understand it can be rolled as luggage or used in a car, but I have not used it in those ways and so cannot comment. This was purchased to help carry a senior dog on local walks and hikes and will work for easy walks but is not such a great option for hikes.

As a backpack, it is sturdy, safe, and comfortable for the dog. For me, however, it is not comfortable to carry on my back. The pack would have benefitted from a more triangular design where the top is not as wide as the bottom. After all, does the dog's head need as much room as its bottom? The square shape makes it VERY wide across the shoulders, with the backpack straps VERY far apart. I am female, 175 lbs, about 5'7, and I do not think I could tolerate this as a backpack for a long hike. It simply does not fit at the shoulders and requires a person with a wider shoulder frame. The width and bulkiness makes it feel awkward on my back, and makes me feel like I do not have full range of motion in my upper body. I could take easy trail walks with this as a backpack, but any kind of more rigorous hike would be difficult, especially if I needed to use my arms to grab rocks, use a walking stick, etc. Simply put, as-is, it makes my arms virtually useless because of the positioning of the backpack straps.

Otherwise, it seems very sturdy. After reading reviews, I settled on this size for a Westie who is 18-20 lbs. He seems cozy and comfortable in the pack, though I do not believe he has enough room to lay down comfortably, FYI. But he can sit just fine, and be secured by the hook on his harness.

The only other minor flaw is that, with a dog inside of it, it is a little scary to load it onto your back. I ended up loading the dog into the backpack while the backpack was sitting up on a table. Then, I didn't have to stoop as low to load it onto my back. To pick it up from the floor and get your arms through the straps, even with the dog strapped inside, it seems like the dog is getting tossed around. I am not sure that a design change could remedy this; it may simply be a factor in the learning curve of the user, in terms of finding the most comfortable way of hoisting the pack to your back.

As an additional improvement and to make it more useful to hikers, it would be nice if the pack had additional compartments for gear and not just one large compartment for the dog. I think a small section on the bottom or even a pocket or two here and there could increase the functionality.

UPDATE August 2012: I am trying to upload photo to better depict the backpack in use. Also, over time I have found another con of the design -- The shape of the backpack has not held. The plastic tubular frame has not kept its boxy shape. You can see this in the photo. I have been pretty delicate with this backpack, transported it carefully, and stored it in its original box. But the frame has continued to buckle and when my dog sits in the backpack, the sides have started to fold in on him a bit.

The only other note I would add in terms of usefulness, is that in hot weather, I am leery of using the backpack for any kind of long walk or hike. The dog sits back to back with me, essentially, which means we share body heat. Even with the mesh in the backpack, the body heat just makes it a bit too hot for the dog in warmer weather.

Good, but Huge! Aug. 24 2010
By nc1977 - Published on Amazon.com
Color: Lavender
This product was great, it was just really big. Well made and it was comfortable to wear as a backpack, and rolled nicely on wheels. I don't think this product would fit under any airplane seat. My 15lb shihtzu was not big enough to need this much space though. We returned it and got the Pet Gear I-Go2 for dogs up to 20 lbs and it is a much better fit, and I think it will probably fit under an airplane seat.

Great case! March 3 2011
By Candice A. Tao - Published on Amazon.com
Color: Black Verified Purchase
I have two Dachshunds that are 10 pounds each. I was worried that they wouldn't fit comfortably inside this case, but they do. I also have 2 cats that are 17 pounds each, and they fit great.

As a backpack/rolling carrier: Each dog has enough space on the bottom portion to lye down together(even with their long 'hot dog' bodies). The case comes with a thin mat that velcro's to the inside of the case. It rolls nicely, and the quality is very good. The mesh netting on the three sides are great, so that the dogs can see outside of the case. I wore the case as a backpack around the house with the two dogs inside, it fits very comfortable. The straps are padded, and there is a padding between the backpack and the case handle so that it doesn't put any uncomfortable pressure on your back. The wheels on the bottom also do not affect your back, they are positioned in a way that it won't touch your skin while your wearing the backpack.

As a car seat/tote: I don't know if I'm missing something, but as far as I can tell there is not any type of fastening device to secure the case into the car. The case did not come with any directions so I don't know if there's a secret compartment with a strap to secure the case. Anyway, I lye the case down so that the lengthy side sits on the seat. This way my two long back dogs can fit comfortably.

As an airline case: Yeah, right. The advertisement says that it fits MOST airlines, I doubt it. This case is huge. Maybe back in 2001 this case would be acceptable but I highly doubt this case would be allowed. It's dimensions are FAR to wide to fit underneath ANY seat. There's no way this case would fit...no way at all.
