Product Description

From Amazon.co.uk

Just not made for these times? Then this four-disc monument to the most innocent, blissfully melodic, California-dreamin' album of the rock era beats Prozac hands down. A staggering labour of love on the part of executive project director Phil Sandhaus and his fellow disciples, this lets us ponder the sine qua non of Brian Wilson's career from every imaginable angle--stereo, mono, instrumental and celestial vocals-only versions included. It's way too much of a good thing, but any album that can profoundly influence such disparate talents as Paul McCartney, XTC's Andy Partrige and ex-Pixie FrankBlack warrants microscopic analysis. Our advice: don't worry baby, just drift away on a Brian Wilson fantasia from an epoch when the drugs still worked and before the delirium tremors set in. --Jeff Bateman

5.0 out of 5 stars Who knows more music like ths? Please mail!, July 18 2004

The "Pet Sound Sessions" is a wonderful Box-Set, because it contains alternate version and studio trackings of the songs from the legendary 1q966-album of the Beach Boys. I felt in love with the only instrumental piece "Let's go away for Awhile". Do you know other music like this? PLEASE MAIL ME! I am looking for another music, too. It's the music from "Days of future pasased" album from The Moody Blues. There are some pieces played by the London Festival Orchestra, who sounds a little bit like Disney and went this album into a brilliant concept album. Please, if you know music like this, mail me: leif.boysen@xp-win.com

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Musical Genius, Jan 21 2004
By
joe-it-all (Hoschton, Georgia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pet Sounds Sessions Box Set (Audio CD)
As a Beatles fan, I got this album to see what all the fuss was about since it has often been cited as an influence on the Sgt Pepper's album. I must admit that I never thought of the Beach Boys as serious musicians so i was not sure how this could be considered one of the gratest albums of all time. Now I have learned of the musical genius of Brian Wilson! Pet Sounds is filled with great songs from start to finish. This box set gives the listener insight into what the recording process was like. There are highlights of the band recording each of the tracks allowing the listener to hear as they experiment with different arrangements. It also includes instrumental versions and even vocals only tracks (it is amazing how good their voices sound even without music). If you appreciate this album for the genius it is, this box set is for you. If you are new to Pet Sounds, this might be more than you need, but definitely give the album a chance.
