Review

'The sort of old-fashioned nature story that will appeal to fans of the Flower Fairies. I love these gentle stories which are steep in natural history. The pictures show all manner of wildlife, really conjuring up what it might be like to live as a tiny creature on the forest floor. Happily, my daughter shares my fascination.' -- Jo Rogers, Families Online (www.familiesonline.co.uk), Autumn 2005 'First published in Sweden in 1901, Peter in Blueberry Land still maintains its original appeal. This is an enchanting story, perfect for reading aloud before bedtime.' -- Booktrusted (www.booktrusted.com) 'When Peter cannot find any berries, the King of Blueberry Land shrinks him so he can go on an adventure: ferns like trees, spider web swings, giant bugs and slugs and a mouse ride through the forest. The children I have read this book to have loved this cheerful and exciting story. They have been fascinated at the thought of being made tiny for the day.' -- Hilary Woolfe with Isaac (age 4), Education Otherwise, February 2005 'Look out for the insects and small creatures included in the pictures that juicily illustrate Peter's adventures.' -- Highland News

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it, April 23 2007

This review is from: Peter in Blueberry Land (Hardcover)
Before I bought this book, I used to cringe at having to read bedtime stories for the second time. The popular stories just don't compare to this one. This tale is simple and enchanting with lots of different things happening in it, but still simple and sweet and perfect for bedtime. Peter is shrunk to the Blueberry Kings size and everything now looks different and larger. Peter meets a spider, the King's sons, Mrs Cranberry and her daughters, plays in a spider's web and in the Blueberry boys' boat. There is lots of action in such a short tale with just as much description. The pictures are beautiful with lots of detail. I haven't gotten tired of reading this book yet, nore is my 3.5 year old tired of hearing it, even if it is 3 times in a row.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful story captures my 2.5 yr old, May 30 2004
By
Wendy C. (Ontario, Canada) - See all my reviews
I became discouraged with other books that others had given us. They were so loud and in your face drawings- hard on the eyes and I was really becoming aware of the yukky content in some of these 'modern' story books. So when we heard about these books I purchased this one first. My 2.5 yr old son is captivated by it and we've read it every night for a week- he knows half the story all ready! The drawings are so beautiful and within the story there are so many good things that happen- the boys help to fill Peters basket with berries, they comb their hair and clean their teeth and hands before they go see Mrs. Cranberry. The fact that Peter is looking for berries for his mothers birthday is touching too. Overall it's just a real 'feel good' book. I can't wait to be able to afford more! :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars A simple tale of adventure, magic, & beauty, Aug 6 2001
By A Customer
Peter has set out in the forest to find berries for his mother's birthday gift, but where are the berries? Fortunately, the mouse-sized King of Blueberry Land arrives, taps Peter on his toe, shrinks him down to his size, and takes him on a magical adventure picking berries, harnessing mice, sailing in slips of bark, and chirping with crickets. My 2- and 4-year-old children love this book. The story perfectly touches the imagination of young ones and its magical possibilities. The illustrations are simple, yet beautiful. This book would be a wonderful addition to any young child's library.
