Peter Gunn: The Complete Series

Recommended for older consumers ; a little dated for the modern audience. I was a child when this went around
the first time but it's great to see all of it again. Astounding how many episodes they did per season back then.

In the late 1950's BLAKE EDWARDS, the famous director of Hollywood movies, was making his debut by directing 3 incredibly popular TV series: PETER GUNN, RICHARD DIAMOND, and MR LUCKY. It is with great joy that two of these shows have recently been re-released on DVD. Episodes of PETER GUNN are taut with suspense and action as the suave hero unravels the mystery at hand. Besides the great scripts and acting, I get a real charge out of all those cars sporting the fins of the era! Moreover, the natural charms of Gunn's girlfriend, Lola Albright, are something to behold!!! As I re-watch this memorable TV series after all the intervening decades since it's original airing, I can't help but consider it a precurser of THE JAMES BOND movies, as there are many similarities. In any case, this boxset is well worth the price, and I am grateful it has been re-released. Now if only we can get "RICHARD DIAMOND, PRIVATE EYE" back on the market....

This product was viewed on a Samsung 40" HD Smart TV, a most unforgiving TV that demands an exceptional source material.

To invest so much cash on a half century TV program, no matter how much I enjoyed it's original premier, was certainly a risk after being burned in the past with hastily prepared material resulting in poor transfers from shabby sources. Case in point: 'The First Of The Few' an abominable rip-off of the classic 'Spitfire' which Amazon has refused to delete from stock.

The folks that put this astonishing offering together state they've done their best to find the best material possible, and I believe! All but a few of these episodes have very pleasing audio and video, many are simply eye-popping, much better than I remember the original broadcasts! In all candidness only one failed to make the high grade these folks set for themselves, not bad considering there are 114 episodes.

If this wasn't enough I also found a bonus CD containing all the music preformed during this series and the sound is fantastic! Like the TV, the CD was played on unforgiving equipment: Sony 508 ESD Player, Luxman R-1050 Receiver and 4 Paradigm Speakers.

Bottom Line: Simply the best product of it's kind that I've purchased in the past 50 years - enjoy!
