Product Description

This text emphasizes understanding over memorization to effectively present the "big picture" through the use of drug prototypes, large and small print, and special foundational chapters that cover principles related to each body system. At the end of each chapter, a summary of major nursing implications also helps you apply the material to real-world situations. The accompanying companion CD-ROM features audio and printable key points that you can download to a CD or MP3 player. The CD-ROM also features 700 NCLEX® examination-style multiple-choice review questions, animations depicting drug mechanisms and effects, flash cards, and numerous electronic calculators.

4.0 out of 5 stars Student Friendly!!!, Dec 6 2011
This review is from: Pharmacology for Nursing Care, 7e (Hardcover)
Great textbook! Written in a friendly, easy-to-read language that will help nursing students understand what is being taught! Goes over basic anatomy and physiology review (which is nice if its been a while) to freshen your knowledge, and then continues by explaining drug mechanisms and then specific drug actions/adverse effects. Really great for any nursing student taking Pharm.

5.0 out of 5 stars Favorite book during nursing school, Dec 18 2011
By jbelly "jbelly" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Pharmacology for Nursing Care, 7e (Hardcover)
Of all the many books we had to read during nursing school, this was by far my favorite. I actually enjoyed reading it! The way that it is written and formatted allowed for easy understanding of the material. It also highlights at the end of each chapter the nursing considerations/precautions to monitor, and highlights in red the really vital information about the drug. It also adds some unexpected & laugh out loud humor in it which was nice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't let the fine print fool you., Jan 11 2012

1288 pages of small text in a book with over 100 chapters. Talk about intimidating when you get your book! But for a textbook, it really is beautifully written in a way that will help you learn the material, whether you're doing a self-study class or with an instructor. The text flows naturally, incorporating what you need to know to what you already know. You don't have to work to assimilate the new material into your knowledge base. The new material just makes sense. There are no cartoons to insult your intelligence, but there is a little humor sprinkled in. The material is easy to understand, easy to digest, and the whole process is explained, not just bits and pieces. It isn't a book to memorize, it makes use of your common sense to put concepts together in a meaningful way so that you really understand the material, not just choke it down for the test. After starting to read it, I got over the initial shock of the tiny print and the bazillion big words, and started to really understand and enjoy pharmacology. I have attempted other (easier) pharmacology texts and found the material dry and child-ish. Oh, the difference a well-written text makes! I strongly recommend this for anybody seeking to learn pharmacology.

Textbook is well-written and easy to understand despite the fact that the subject matter in itself is complex. I was glad to see that the author made every attempt to clarify/simplify key concepts before diving into the more complicated points.
