This is an excellent book. I had it as a text book in college in a class where the author was the instructor. It got lost several years ago, and I was thrilled to find it on Amazon. Great instruction for singing. I will use this for my own students.

This book is really great for helping to develop the belt voice. It is very detailed about how to safely and correctly produce a belt voice sound. The text covers areas such as misconceptions about the belt voice, a range of terms associated with the belt voice and their respective definitions, mouth positions and physical elements of producing the belt voice, vowel modulations, diction (minimizing the interference of consonants; emphasis on vowels over consonants), breath support, and exercises for belt voice development. The numerous illustrations throughout are quite helpful.

I would strongly recommend trying to get a copy of the vhs tape that was produced to accompany the book. That said - good luck in finding one! I was fortunate to find a copy after a lot of searching. The vhs tape is much more of a demonstration than an instruction of belt voice singing, but it was very helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Used by Broadway Singers, July 12 2010

Jan Sullivan was my voice teacher for one semester in college. She taught me how to sing in legitimate placement and how to belt properly. I was Eponine in Les Miserables in every national tour, and Ellen in Miss Saigon, (Broadway). I sang 8 shows a week for several years and never lost or damaged my voice. If you want to belt a Broadway tune with the best technique, then turn around and sing an aria, this is the book for you. Get the video/CD if it's available.
