Product Description

Amazon.ca Product Description

The Philips Wake-Up Light HF3470 provides a more pleasant and natural way to wake up in the morning. Because there's nothing worse than being jarred awake by a blaring alarm clock, the Philips Wake-Up Light, an Official Light Therapy Product of the National Sleep Foundation, wakes you in a natural way with light that increases gradually. The Wake-Up Light simulates the sunrise to help you greet the morning with an improved mood and energy level. Light gradually increases for 30 minutes before your alarm time to gently prepare your body to wake up and feel more energetic at the start of your day. With optional FM radio and nature sounds, the Wake-Up Light ensures waking up will be a pleasant experience.

Simulates Dawn to Wake You Gradually

The official light therapy product of the National Sleep Foundation, the Wake-Up Light wakes you up by simulating sunrise. Light gradually increases for 30 minutes before your alarm time to gently prepare your body to wake up and feel more energetic at the start of your day.

When you turn off the alarm using the lever, the lamp stays on to give you the opportunity to get out of bed without switching on another lamp.

Wake Up Gradually
Choice of Two Natural Sounds or Radio

At your set wake-up time, you'll start to hear a natural sound or your selected FM radio station. These sounds start out quietly and take 90 seconds to reach your selected full volume level. There are three sounds you can choose from: morning birds, a beep sound, and wind chimes. A snooze button feature lets you enjoy nine more minutes of sleep before the sounds start again.

Choose Your Light Level for Natural Awakening

Because different people have different light sensitivities, the Wake-Up Light lets you select the light intensity that best suits your personal preferences. The intensity level can be set up to 250 lux. Higher settings typically correspond with shorter wake-up times, while lower settings may result in a more gradual wake-up process.

Bedside Lamp with 20 Light Settings

The Wake-Up Light can be used as a bedside lamp for reading. The 20 different brightness settings allow you to choose a light intensity that's best for you. It has an easy-to-read digital display. Menu, select, and volume buttons are conveniently located underneath the time display.

Backed by Clinical Research

Independent research shows that 8 out of 10 Wake-Up Light users reported that the device made it easier to get out of bed. Additionally, 88 percent of users say the Wake-Up Light is better than their previous way of waking up. It has also been clinically proven that light wakes you up more pleasantly and improves the quality of waking up.

Recommended by National Sleep Foundation

The Wake-Up Light is recommended by the National Sleep Foundation, an educational and scientific nonprofit organization dedicated to improving sleep health and safety.

The Wake-Up Light is also completely safe to use on a daily basis and 100 percent UV free.

Product Information

The light measures 9-9/10 inches high by 6-7/10 inches in diameter. It makes use of a replaceable 100-watt, 12-volt halogen lamp.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works exactly as expected Nov. 20 2011
By Glen
The light comes on very gradually, which isn't jarring like a typical timed light. Those lights are like when you were a kid and your mom suddenly turned the light on - not the best way to wake up.
You can set the light to be very bright when it hits the alarm time, or still dim. The option of chirping birds is a nice touch, but I can't see an option for no sound at all.
The alarm does not have an AM radio, only FM which is probably fine for most people.

5.0 out of 5 stars This wake-up light has changed my life! March 1 2012
I am being totally serious when I say this wake-up light has changed my life! I am not a morning person by any stretch of the imagination. I am normally a total zombie (not to mention a total grump) for at least an hour (or more) after waking up with the traditional horrid buzzing alarm clock. I got this wake-up light as a birthday gift a few weeks ago, and let me tell you this has been the best gift EVER! Now, instead of being jolted awake from a serious deep sleep, I sometimes even wake up before the light has reached the maximum brightness and before the birds start chirping (I really love the nature sounds in this clock....no more horrid buzzing!!)! I have never woken up before an alarm went off in my life and I even feel rested! I now wake up with a smile on my face to the sound of twittering birds or soft meditation type drum/chime sounds. I never in my wildest dreams thought this could ever be possible. I cannot say enough good things about this wake-up light. I would definitely recommend this to anyone!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!! Sept. 2 2012

I love this alarm clock. Who doesn't like to wake up to sunshine and birds chirping? It looks and sounds exactly like the sunlight and birds right outside my bedroom window in the summer months. Love it, love it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Philippe's Wake-Up Light. Jan. 11 2012
This is an excellent product, but the set-up is a bit complicated. Once it is programmed to go on at selected time, then it is an excellent source of morning light and is helpful for those who have difficulty during the 'dark' months.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love it, my wife does not June 12 2013

I have it now for over a year.
I'm not a morning person and really makes a difference.
Con: my wife is a morning person so even at the lowest setting it wakes her up, so she's up 30min than the actual alarm (also means coffee in bed for me though lol).
It's to the point where in the winter, I normally wake up to pitch black, go to the shower light off because I'm still waking up.
Now I have no problem with all the lights on full blast first thing in the morning.
It's not so useful in the summer (unless you want to get up at 3am!).
The radio sounds is tiny but I need more the light than the sound.
The bulb still going strong.

5.0 out of 5 stars Was skeptical, not anymore. Jan. 19 2012
By Boze
I just bought my first home and I am very excited. Alas I am what one may refer to as hypervigillant and really have a hard time getting used to "new noises" in buildings, neighbours thumping etc.

So my immediate solution was sleeping with ear plugs! Problem solved right?

Well no, because the ear plugs worked too well and i couldn't hear my alarm clock in the morning, so what is a guy to do?

Behold the HF3470 Wake up light. At first i was skeptical at the idea of light waking me up from a lamp, isn't that stupid? what if i am rolled facing the other way in my bed?

First night I got it, i set it to turn on at FULL BRIGHTNESS (20) for 5am (when i normally wake up for work). Well, lol, i found myself waking up at about 4:36am and wide awake because the darn thing was pretty bright at 4:36 i can't even imagine how blinding it would have been by 5am!

So in conclusion, it works and i need to tone it down to the right setting!

4.0 out of 5 stars How did I live without this? Oct. 28 2013
By Binky
I did not purchase this from Amazon but wanted to write a review anyways. I suffer from SAD and have had the blue light for a while but was looking for something to help me wake up in the winter months (I live in Vancouver, enough said). This light went on sale so I purchased it. I have only had it a few days but so far I am noticing a significant difference in my ability to get out of bed in the morning feeling refreshed and ready to tackle my day.

- works like it's supposed to by emitting a pleasant, sunrise-like glow to help you wake up naturally
- the birds chirping is a nice way to wake up rather than a bone-jarring clock-radio
- non disruptive to your partner. Not sure if this is only because my husband sleeps like the dead, but he wakes up an hour later than me and this device doesn't bother him at all
- I like that you can use it as a bedside lamp too

- it's big, and because it can get hot, you can't have anything near it. This means it takes up most of the room on my night stand.
- a bit complicated to get it set up IMO

Bottom line I am very happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great experience, fantastic value Sept. 28 2013
By Carol Ann Rowland TOP 500 REVIEWER

My daughter was asking for a gradual lightening alarm clock last Christmas. I told her no deal given that most of the ones I could find were over $200 and, the cheaper ones I could see, got terrible reviews.

I was encouraged when finding this one, which had a lower price and good reviews! I was extra excited when it then went on sale. :)

After 8 months of use, so far it is still working really well. She is really happy with it and feels it is easier to wake up in the morning.

3.0 out of 5 stars light wakes you up, if your not overtired
Good light that wakes you up if your not too tired. The sounds stopped working after the first week. Still use it though. I would rather a light than an annoying stressful sound.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's pretty darn good, but I would probably get the updated unit
