Rubinstein at his best! April 7 2008
By Scriabinmahler - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Recorded live in 1963 at the hight of his artistic maturity, Rubinstein gives incredibly vivid and graceful performance of Emperor Concerto. Philharmonia Orchestra under Ormandy gives strong and warmly expressive support. Stereo recording.

Solo piano works are recorded in 1958, pretty good mono. Schubert Impromptus are played with sublime simplicity. Chopin's C sharp m etude is just breath takingly brilliant.

simply outstanding April 27 2013
By Col William Russell - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
Rubinstein, like many other artists, responded more passionately and spontaneously to a live performance rather than a cut-and-paste studio one. He was one of most outstanding pianists of the 20th century and he, like Horowitz and Serkin, have not been equalled, let alone surpassed. This CD is a remarkable performance that belongs in every music lover's collection.
