Picasso: The Man And His Work is a two volume DVD anthology that painstakingly researches and portrays the life of revolutionary modern painter Picasso. Part 1 covers 1881-1937 and Part 2 covers 1938-1973. Originally made with the complete collaboration of Picasso himself, this artistic presentation unfolds in flashback format, alternately showing scenes of Picasso's life, and in turn displaying how his life experiences deeply affected his work. An absolute "must-have" for fans of Picasso's pioneering style, Picasso: The Man And His Work: Parts 1 & 2 is very highly recommended viewing. A core addition to art school and community library Art History collections, each DVD biographical documentary is in black-and-white, with a running time of 45 minutes plus 60 minutes of bonus features including art galleries, director's memoirs on Picasso, bonus music, and more.

Low quality video and sound, but unique Nov. 11 2007
By Eugene Tenenbaum - Published on Amazon.com
The quality of video and sound of this DVD set is low like of its VHS original of 1986, but its unique scenes showing Picasso are not available else. Remastering would be beneficial. "Picasso: Magic Sex Death" is by far a better choice.

Boring and Vague Sept. 8 2013
By existential1 - Published on Amazon.com
This video does the seemingly impossible--makes the life and work of Picasso seem incredibly boring. There is virtually no biography and what is given is quite general. The life of Picasso is glossed over and few concrete details are given. Instead, most of the video consists of still shots of Picasso's paintings over time, yet most of the shots crop the images and eliminate important details in his works. Few images are discussed, instead they are simply shown for a few seconds along with the date and title. I am an art teacher and know if I show this video in class my students will revolt--it is so dull and seems to have little point. The maker, Edward Quinn, was friends with Picasso and seems like he didn't want to do anything that might reveal anything about Picasso's life. This video is dull dull dull.
A decent look into Picasso's life and work Dec 13 2014

A decent look into Picasso's life and work, but slanted from the point of view of his last wife Jacqueline.
