I took the SAT's in 2007, and I used the old version of these flash cards when I was studying then. Now, as a college graduate and a SAT Verbal teacher, I came across these flash cards when I was browing teaching material on Amazon, and I HAD to say something about how amazing these flash cards are.
To give an example of how great these are, I still remember the illustrations for challenging words like anomaly, and I can easily recall the definitions for them. The illustrations serve as a very helpful mnemonic tool that really sticks in your mind for years.
As a psychology major, I know that different people have different learning styles. If you are a visual learner, like I am, you HAVE to buy these NOW! I marvel about these cards all the time, and I'm really glad that I could help potential buyers make the right decision in buying these.

I'm amazed by how my students are responding. I teach high school SAT Prep. I'm actually using them in class today after first trying them out yesterday. I divided the students into teams and gave each kid 5 cards and 5 minutes. I then collected the cards and held a contest between the teams. So far, out of 7 sections, almost all accurately learned 5 words in 5 minutes. When asked, they recited the exact definition from the card and described the cartoon. In the rare instance when a student stumbled on a word, I remindeded him of the cartoon and he invariably remembered instantly. The contests took about 35 minutes, so by the end, they had sat long enough to drop the words from their rote memories. Out of approx. 70 words per class, I saw 1 or 2 missed per section. I couldn't believe it. And I can assure you, these kids were only half trying.
Buy this set and other books like it.

I find these cards to be entertaining as they inspire a greater vocabulary. I use them in our multiage classroom for game playing and group activity. The kids love the games and they are remembering the words since it engages multiple aspects of learning... in small bites. Good stuff.
