Designed for anyone interested in graphics, photography, or photographic creations, this book demonstrates how you can put the incredible power of Corel PaintShop Pro X6 into play. It cuts to the chase of the PaintShop Pro X6 tools that are best used when working with photographs and creating your own graphic elements. You'll learn how to correct and enhance photographs so that things like red-eye, scratches, blemishes, and unwanted objects no longer detract from your favorite pictures, whether they're ones you just captured or ones you're trying to restore to former glory. You'll read about color and how it works and use layers to adjust brightness, hue, and contrast. You'll also learn about resolution and how it applies to your monitor, your images, and your prints. In addition, you'll explore the PaintShop Pro RAW lab, where you can process your camera's RAW images, getting just the look you want. Discover fun things you can do with your photographs, such as creating digital scrapbook pages and 3-dimensional images. You'll learn how you can make composite images and create works of art with the special effects provided with PaintShop Pro X6. Throughout these pages, you'll find step-by-step instructions, full-color photographs, notes, and Tips. You'll also find an appendix covering keyboard shortcuts, as well as a glossary you can refer to for new terms. Harness the power of PaintShop Pro X6 to perfect your photographs and create graphic elements that are dynamic, unique, and fun. What's on the companion website: fun sample graphics, fonts, frames, and brushes and demo add-on filters programs for use with PaintShop Pro X6.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok for Beginners - not for More Advanced Dec 22 2013
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
I bought this book because it had a lot of pages and I thought I might teach me some of the more advanced techniques. I am a self-taught PSP user and only consider myself an intermediate. However, went through this book page by page, reading some of it in depth, and found that there was very little material covered that I didn't already know. There was not a single 'aha!' moment in the whole book. If you're a beginner and have never used a Paintshop / Photoshop-type program, this is the book for you. If you're already fairly proficient, then don't bother.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not for Corel Paintshop Pro x6 "ULTIMATE" version of the software Dec 3 2013
By Devona Jefferson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
It was advertised as the manual for the new Corel Paintshop Pro 6 "Ultimate". This book is not for that software. One big issue is that the ultimate versioin allows the user to create HDR photos. This book does not contain the instructions needed to assist in creating HDR photographs. The manual for Ultimate comes free with the software. It is electronic, I believe in PDF format. You can use it on your computer screen or you can print it out.

3.0 out of 5 stars This is the only time that I would give an Amazon sold and shipped by product this kind of review Feb. 11 2014
By Gorilla Boy - Published on Amazon.com

I am the biggest fan in the world of AMAZON; my rule of thumb is that if something is handled exclusively by AMAZON IT IS GREAT. Sorry, this book is mediocre. It contains an offer of add-ons a few pages into the book and the author uses an incorrect ISBN number which corresponds to COREL PaintSHOP Pro X5 not x6 and when I tried to get assistance from the publisher it was impossible. Please buy the Program from AMAZON because the program is wonderful; and COREL technical support is also wonderful. I purchased a one year subscription directly from COREL to get rapid assistance directly from COREL for one year for $69.00. The technicians are great and COREL support which is inside the program is better than this book. Use the money that you would have spent for the book and spend it towards the subscription. Sorry, to my friends at AMAZON, this book is not as user friendly as the one year subscription to tech support call 877-582-6735

1.0 out of 5 stars No help - in no way May 1 2014
By PentaxEye - Published on Amazon.com
I purchased this book with intent to learn how to work with Paintshop Pro X6. Again and again I miss simple explanations and come to a stop. E.g. in chapter 8 "Developing Layers" it shows nice figures and screenshots but nowhere will it explain how to get two or more photos into the layers palette at the same time. Now I've learned a lot about layers, but it's pure theory. So Paintshop Pro remains a mystery. You can't check it for yourself.

Glossary and Index are absolutely insufficient. For example look up "compositing" or "text color". Nothing - irritating. Even in chapter 13 "Working with Text" (18 pages) you won't find clear, unmistakable instructions for changing the text color. Instead of that the author acts the entertainer, babbles about small children and cites "A picture is worth a thousand words." But where are the pictures? Words everywhere! No hint where to find stroke style and fill style. It is exasperating.

This could be continued through the whole book. You wonder whether the author or the program is to blame for all that mess. Sorry, but this book is annoyingly useless.

2.0 out of 5 stars not worth the money April 16 2014

Very difficult for me to follow, expected more on a guide on how do the actual task. The program itself is hard, the book on how to should be easier.
