A *GREAT* rock album,
By Tweeedly Eeeedly "blahblahblah" (Fremont, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pictures at Eleven (Audio CD)
ok, i came to Zep late so I didn't have the comparison syndrome that so many others have. As a purely solo debut is how I'd like to treat this, and it is one of my favorite albums. Why only 4 stars then? I find I don't listen to it that often. My favorite track on here is "Like I've Never Been Gone". Oh yeah, Robbie Blunt is an incredible guitarist with the misfortune of having to impress Zepplin fans.

Robert Plant Goes Solo And Strikes It Rich,
By A Customer
This review is from: Pictures at Eleven (Audio CD)
On PICTURES AT ELEVEN, his first solo album, Robert Plant strikes it rich musically right away. The songs here are great, especially "Burning Down One Side" and "Pledge Pin", which show where Led Zeppelin might have gone had drummer John Bonham not drunk himself to death. This, THE PRINCIPLE OF MOMENTS, and NOW AND ZEN are the first solo Plant albums you should purchase- all at once if possible.

His most consistent solo album,
By Shmuel (Jerusalem Israel) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pictures at Eleven (Audio CD)
When I was thinking of writing a review for this album I thought of mentioning that Plant would really benefit from putting out a greatest hits album as although this does not have any of his classic songs such as Big Log, Ships of Fools etc this was his most consistent effort and he seemed to spend all his albums after this searching for some sort of lost chord (which he never found) that led to very good songs on mediocre albums. However I see that he has just released something akin to a greatest hits and apparently it does not have any of this album's songs on it so feel free to go out and buy both (at amazon of course).Like Led Zeps first album which coincidently was probably also their best and most consistent, although in a class far above this one, the musical ideas are fairly simple but delivered with a punch, even the quiet songs are sung loudly. The vocals are quite good considering Plant had been hammering his vocal cords for over 10 years by this time and the guitarist, although no Jimmy Page, is very good. I'd class the music overall as adult heavy rock. My favourites are the very heavy Slow Dancer and the quieter Moonlight in Samosa. None of these songs are going to change your life but the whole album is a groove, even on CD.
