Product Description

Product Description

Rediscover Dave McKean's lost masterpiece! Pictures That Tick is a collection of McKean's groundbreaking short comics stories from the 1990s and early 2000s. A true iconoclast, McKean mixes illustration, painting, photography, sculpture, and digital art for a comics experience unlike any other. Some pieces are poignant, some are silly, but all are beautiful and thought provoking. Each is completely unique, and gathered together they represent a tour-de-force achievement. A perfect companion to McKean's Cages, Pictures That Tick stretches the boundaries of comics art, and the short-story format in some ways allows him to create an even broader artistic vision.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, as always., Feb 15 2010

This review is from: Pictures That Tick (Paperback)
A few quirky, weird, funny and sad (and scary) tales written and illustrated by Dave McKean. About half the book is in color, and the other half in bw and grays. Very good paper, very very good edition all in all. If you read "Cages" you know what you're getting, and even if some of the stories are very simple, the images are so perfect, so beautiful, so amazing (yes, I am a huge fan) that they alone are worth the price of admission... Truly one of the most innovative comics creators out there, this is for anyone who likes the see what an incredible range the comics format actually can encompass.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pictures and dreams, Mar 29 2010

What should I say about Mr McKean?
I am a huge fan of his work since I was 14 yrs old.
And, here I am now; 31 ... reading Pictures That Tick ... reading and floating
in that dreamland of mixed media, weird narrative, mixed metaphors.
The street is quiet, Ash fell asleep, and I wonder what can happen next?
Some drawings reminds me of Picasso, some of Schiele, but in the end it's McKean.
And, he brings us some short cuts, cold and warm expressions, b&w drawings and lines that binds those strange and real worlds.
It's rock 'n' roll and I just can't wait to see part two!
