The best 70's porn film soundtrack ever Nov 9 1999
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
In the late Seventie she became the godmother of rap, founding Sugar Hill Records, the first rap label. But before that, Sylvia recorded this nasty gem, taking double entendres to new highs. "Pillow Talk" was the hit, with lyrics about having to "borrow your pants some cold and lonely night". But there were other winners: in "Didn't I", she coos "at last you know I'm not margarine - but I am a high-priced spread!"...and in "Had Any Lately?", well, she mixes a come-on with a Vietnam protest song. The best track, though, is "Not on the Outside". You can almost get a contact high from this song: all the musicians play like they've smoked some serious herb while Sylvia dedicates the song to her dead songwriting partner - on whom she admits changing the song to her version now that he's gone. She even plays acoustic (or, as she says, "a-cue-stick) guitar on the track, and finishes the song in a self-orgy of moans. Classic.

RIp to a very talented Artist Oct 5 2011
By A customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Sylvia RObinson would make a bigger name for herself as being a founder of Sugar Hill records and helping bring in the Sugar Hill Gang and also bring GrandMaster flash and the furious five on board years later. but this set right here showcases her solo career and "Pillow talk" was something else and so smooth and direct. where R&B/Pop and Hip Hop have gone since makes this a track just blush, but back in the day this was risque for its time. Sylvia was coy and so cool with her's. these tracks though are well Produced and composed and very much in groove. she was the real deal and worthy of being on one of the tv one's Unsung's. She hasn't fully ever gotten her just due as a Artist. this is a strong set that showcases her talent and creativity and how she knew how to play on words.this is soulful and on time still.
