Product Description

Product Description

Backstage documents a journey behind the scenes on Pink Floyd’s remarkable "Another Lapse" 1989 and the "Division Bell" 1994 tours of Europe.

Taken from super-fan Bobby Hassall’s unique perspective - first as a fan jumping a fence to get in to his first show to becoming the adopted fan by the band’s crew - and then as a fully paid up crew member himself.

Bobby’s hugely entertaining story is coupled with extensive behind the scenes coverage and previously unpublished photographs of the huge stages being constructed in arenas and stadiums as well as the memorable Venice concert.

First published in 1991 and distributed through Brain Damage magazine this edition of Backstage is a completely redesigned, updated and expanded version.

A must-read for all Pink Floyd fans, Backstage is an insightful look at life behind the scenes of a huge touring operation and is packed with many unique photos and reproductions of tour documents.

HASH(0x9f289834) out of 5 stars Through the eyes of the hands on fan Aug. 6 2013

I was a little surprised that this book did not receive better reviews. Just keep in mind that this was written by a pure Pink Floyd fan and not an established author and you will enjoy the ride. I loved every page of this gem. The only negative I can think of is that it was him gallivanting around with the Floyd crew and not me. A must for any true Floyd Nut. Cheers Bobby.

HASH(0x9f289a80) out of 5 stars Entertaining but short Feb. 6 2013

The style of writing is far from skilled, the book is quite short, but Mr. Hassall's enthusiasm and love for music conquers the readers heart.

However, Pink Floyd is a monstrous band, and you would expect any book about them to meet their monstrosity in size and complexity.
HASH(0x9f289a44) out of 5 stars Interesting But With Limitations April 14 2013

I enjoyed reading this book and the author tells it in a straightforward, easy-to-read manner. The writer himself appears to be an easygoing, likeable sort of person. What you get basically are the experiences of someone who attends Pink Floyd concerts and then manages to get into the areas where they do set-up for the band. Various concerts across Europe are described. The most interesting of these, at least for me, was the one in Venice. There is very little direct contact with the band and that is of a superficial nature. Overall I am glad I had the opportunity to read this book.
HASH(0x9f289d38) out of 5 stars A FLOYDIES FAIRY TALE COME TO LIFE Jan. 25 2013

Bobbys book quickly takes us over that fence with him. Each and every time I've seen the Floyd I've been left with a desire for the other side...always straining for an extra glimpse of Floyd action and wow...this book more than delivers that glimpse. I would've given 5 stars...but only if I could be Bobby for all that time. Though this book makes it seem that at times the reader is Bobby.I challenge anyone reading the 1st few pages not to run to their stereo and crank up those 1st three notes of Shine On. Was definitely a fun and easy read. Thank you Bobby Hassall

This book has absolutely nothing to do with the band members of Pink Floyd. That said, what a great look inside the mentality of a super fan willing to jump the fence to find out what's inside. I've never been a groupie but now I wish I'd indulged myself. Lots of fun the author had indulging his heart and he took me with him, at least in spirit. You won't find deep insights or provocative reading here. You will find a quick, amusing read.
