Product Description

Book Description

Catch a rare inside glimpse of one of the world's most revered guitarists, David Gilmour, and his iconic Black Stratocaster. Written by David's personal guitar technician and the band's chief backline tech since 1974 - the only man to know Pink Floyd's equipment better than the band - this expanded edition contains new information as well as many unpublished photographs, recently come to light, that further chart the Black Strat's illustrious history. Amending and elaborating on the previous edition, it also continues the story where the last one left off with all the latest live appearances, information, and photographs - including David testing the Fender Black Strat replica models; performances with David Bowie, Jeff Beck, and others; and much more.

About the Author

Phil Taylor (London) is David Gilmour's personal guitar technician and Pink Floyd's chief backline tech. First employed by the band in 1974 as their only full-time backline crew member, he was responsible for all of the band's equipment both on tour and in the studio. Phil has worked on every Pink Floyd and David Gilmour project for over three decades. He is David's production and studio manager as well as maintaining his instruments, equipment, and warehouse.

The book really shows the history of the black strat from the begining when David Gilmour purchased the guitar at Manny's NYC. There are a lot of rare pictures and on the last updated version there is a detailed review on making the Fender replicas. I really enjoyed reading it and, for my opinion it delivers the goods. a must for all Pink Floyd fans and David gilmour fans. that's a great book for a fair price.

The book itself is a great information source, but as soon as I open the book I found out a lot of loose pages, that was a big surprise because Halleonard is a big and serious company but the quality on my book was terrible day after day mores pages get loose from the book and now is almost imposible to read it!! I am very disapointed with Amazon they send to me a very bad quality book.

Being a self confessed Pink Floyd nut and a guitarist, I was very impressed with the contents of the book which I devoured over the course of a weekend. Excellent incite into the history of the 'black strat' accompanied by some seriously good photos. In fact,I was so inspired after reading this book that I went and ordered a Fender Customised Black Strat to go along with my collection.
