Product Description

From Amazon.com

You won't need a bottle of rum to enjoy Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, especially if you've experienced the Disneyland theme-park ride that inspired it. There's a galleon's worth of fun in watching Johnny Depp's androgynous performance as Captain Jack Sparrow, a roguish pirate who could pass for the illegitimate spawn of rockers Keith Richards and Chrissie Hynde. Depp gets all the good lines and steals the show, recruiting Orlando Bloom (a blacksmith and expert swordsman) and Keira Knightley (a lovely governor's daughter) on an adventurous quest to recapture the notorious Black Pearl, a ghost ship commandeered by Jack's nemesis Capt. Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), a mutineer desperate to reverse the curse that left him and his (literally) skeleton crew in a state of eternal, undead damnation. Director Gore Verbinski (The Ring) repeats the redundant mayhem that marred his debut film Mouse Hunt, but with the writers of Shrek he's made Pirates into a special-effects thrill-ride that plays like a Halloween party on the open seas. Aye, matey, we've come a long way since Jason and the Argonauts! --Jeff Shannon

– Helen Faradji.

(REAL NAME)
Many months after the Blu-ray release of 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl', an error was discovered in the framing of some scenes. To rectify this issue, Disney is offering a replacement disc with the framing corrected.

email them at disneyinfo@disneyhelp.com with your full name, address, disc UPC #, and phone number.

Other than that, it's a great movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars "The One That Started It All...", Dec 17 2007
By Tommy Morais (Canada,New Brunswick) - See all my reviews
(TOP 50 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
In the summer of 2003,the first of what was to become a trilogy in the "Pirates Of The Carribean" serie is released,"The Curse Of The Black Pearl" wich became an instant hit.Its true that the movie was in fact based on the Dysneyland ride, you can`t deny it,but for a movie based on a theme ride lets say that it was great.Pirates movies were long dated by that time but then again,it proves that what`s old is new as it was very succesfull on the box office and most people who saw the film became fans of the serie.Afterwards it generated two more sequels,2006`s "Dead Man`s Chest" and 2007`s "At World`s End" who only proved the serie`s succes with incredible numbers at the box office. This is the first, therefore being the original one has all the advantages as its creative, new and its not neccessarily at money maker like some sequels. In this first Pirates we meet Captain Jack Sparrow and co in this wonderfull adventure.

Pirates follows the adventures of Jack Sparrow(played wonderfully by Johnny Depp),Blacksmith Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann. We first get to learn about Jack who is searching for a ship and even at first,he makes a good impression with viewers with his attitude and humor,he definatly is the best character.Jack arrives in Port Royal and rescues Elizabeth Swann, the Governor`s daughter and he nearly gets arrested because of his well know Pirate identity. Then, things gets rough as Jack and Will have a bad first meeting as they fight in sword duel and at the conclusion of it Jack is left unconscious and Will is arrested and throwned to jail. That same night, the town is attacked by the Black Pearl,a legendary ship, and its crew and Elizabeth is captured. Will and Jack team togheter to save her,or that`s what Will thinks.Jack is in for the ship not the girl. From there the action starts and you get into the movie and can`t stop watching. It might not sound too great but the execution is far better than the plot!

Actually the movie`s roots go back in the early 1990s when they first started to write a script about the them ride, then another script was written and it was finally rewritten in 2002 and was accepted by Disney. Its not your typical Disney movie as someone would expect but its far better. The director of he movie,Gore Verbinski was enthusiastic at the idea of using modern technology to make a kind of movie that faded away a long time ago.It did turn out very well and it became very succesfull. It is to note that Depp based his performance on Rolling Stone`s Keith Richards, comparing rockers to pirates. His performance of Sparrow alone made the movie greateven if the rest of the cast was pretty good as well.I would definatly recommend "The Curse Of The Black Pearl" to anyone.

1.0 out of 5 stars Big framing problem destroys an otherwise fantastic release., Oct 2 2007
By Allister Howe (Victoria, BC Canada) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This Blu-Ray Disc looks amazing. As the only Pirates movie of the trilogy I actually liked, I'm very pleased with the quality of both the video and audio on this disc.

But (And it's a big but) Disney has completely screwed up the framing of a 9 minute section of the movie. The section in question is the fight between Orlando Bloom's character and Johnny Depp's character in the blacksmith's. The frame is actual lower than it should, resulting in Orlando Bloom's head being cut off DURING a piece of dialogue, and revealing metal rivets holding up the wooden platforms on which they fight (Whoops!)

This mistake is inexcusable, and Disney should offer a disc replacement program for those of us who have already bought the disc. I would love to recommend this disc to anyone, however with this large error, unfortunately I recommend everyone thinking about purchasing this BD wait until Disney issues a corrected version.
