I like some chaotic metal but this band just never did it for me. The lyrics say nothing and are just gibberish. I thought that SOME of the music presented here was "ok" but just not that easily digestable. A lackluster band with better competition. Check out "Norma Jean" instead.

Training for Utopia, Plastic Soul Impalement (Tooth and Nail, 1998)

I'm still not quite sure what to think of Training for Utopia. They've obviously got a handle on what they're doing, and know how to keep the listener's attention; it's not often that a thrash./hardcore band knows how to use noise to get their point across (and when you're in the same company as Integrity and Neurosis, you're certainly doing something right). On the other hand, vocalist Ryan Clark doesn't even attempt dynamics. The lyrics are all delivered in the same raspy full-on attack, which tends to lend a monotony to the parts of the songs that do have vocal accompaniment.

A fully instrumental album by TfU would have been, I think, an awe-inspiring thing. But since the band have broken up, this will have to do. ***

5.0 out of 5 stars insert scary, life-threatening quote here, Mar 1 2004

The front of the cd alone makes me want to break down and cry. Jesus really went through tremendous amounts of pain and agony for us. For ME.

While none of the songs really glorify Jesus, Training For Utopia spoke their minds, they did alot of thinking. Lead singer Ryan Clark may be screaming at the top of his lungs, but he sounds so...desperate. Like he wants more out of life than just what we can see and touch with out flesh and bones.

A good hardcore cd.
