Almost 5 stars, but...,
By A Customer
This review is from: Platinum & Gold Collection (Audio CD)
This fine CD was not as 'remastered' as I would have liked it to be. I thought that this CD would have the stereo version of "Catch A Falling Star", but it is in mono on this CD. However, the snappy tune "Weave me the Sunshine" is a doggone great song that will put a bounce in your step and a smile on your face everytime you hear it. Overall, audio is pretty decent, and Perry's voice is fantastic as always. This is a good collection if you don't already have Perry's other Greatest Hits recordings, but then again, it is a must-have just for the song "Weave Me The Sunshine". You can never lose with Perry Como, so this is a good CD.

"Somebody Up There Likes Me" and "Weave Me The Sunshine",
By Matthew Long - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Platinum & Gold Collection (Audio CD)
This compilation from BMG Heritage is one of the lesser efforts made by the label. The collection consists of only 12 songs. The songs again, in most cases have been released and re-released an enormous amount of times. The two exceptions are "Somebody Up There Likes Me" and "Weave Me The Sunshine". The former was recorded by Perry for the soundtrack of the film "Somebody Up There Likes Me" and the flip-side to Perry's opening theme song "Dream Along With Me (I'm On My Way To A Star)" recorded in 1956. The latter is taken from the very successful album of 1974, simply titled "Perry". Both songs, although having much popularity within their context appear to have been chosen somewhat at random within this collection.Sources are unidentified but appear to be Release Master Tapes or copies of the same. The CD is accompanied by a booklet including liner notes and several photos. The photos are rarer than usual, but the liner notes do contain some misconceptions. At most, one might be considering purchasing this collection for the 2 songs mentioned above... Baring that in mind; this is very expensive for what is, in effect a "CD Single" worth of recordings. |
