Points in time elite,
By Erno Piirainen (Kuhmo, Finland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Points in Time 8 (Audio CD)
Points in time 8 is so far my fave from the series. This compilation is a good showcase for the years 97-99. The amen started to be in the history and these tracks are more futuristic and ambient, the way I like the Good Looking drum'n'bass. There aren't really any weak points in the tracklist, all of them represent the Good Looking sound in its finest. The CD kicks off with KMC's System, a sort of tune you would like to play to someone who'd want to know what ambient drum'n'bass sounds like, soft pads, mellow and atmospheric soundscapes, crispy beats and the warm, deep bass which causes shivers for sure. A bit deeper into the ambient feel goes Voyager's track called Apollo, introduced in the Progression Sessions 3, which takes you right out of this planet with its lush pads and small subtle melody, the same could be said for Nu-Moon's Possible Worlds. Björn's God Chord continues pretty much in the same moods, going a bit more darker and deeper. Blame provides a track called 360clic, more lively kind of song with acoustic bass, guitar hooks and nicely rolling beat. The CD ends with Big Bud's Alzir, a nice tune showing his trademark sound. This compilation has essential tracks and it's a must have for all of you who like drum'n'bass music.

A Tapestry of Spaced Out Drum and Bass,
By jonathan - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Points in Time 8 (Audio CD)
The devoted fanbase that has sprung up around Good Looking Records has only grown stronger over time. Fans rave about the spacey chords and jazzy melodies of the artists on this label, and there is quite a sincere love for this certain corner of electronic music. If you came to the GLR party a bit later, as I did, the Points in Time series of sampler discs will provide a wide assortment of styles and tastes. Much like a Spanish tapas plate, there's a certain song or groove here that will please any fan of breaks or DnB, without the hard-edged blasts that tend to be the hallmark of Metalheadz or some of the Fabriclive offerings. As this entire series is well paced per release with little chaff to speak of, it's very difficult to single out one album for purchase(if pressured, I would say that PIT 4 or 6 are likely the most coherent). As it's possible to get them for a very low price now, so it's almost worth putting down for a random collection and seeing what you will get. I did the same, and I was not disappointed. GLR has discontinued releasing records for the time being, and a number of the artists have moved on to different labels. A real shame, as this was the premium location for the most moving and emotional dance music in this range of BPM, and may be difficult to beat for some time.

Points In time 8,
By J. Smith "I just want to listen" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Points in Time 8 (Audio CD)
I have been a fan of GLO records for a little over 5 years and I couldn't wait to start listening to some of their older music. They have went through some changes over the years so to listen to some good old Drum & Bass is great. The songs arranged on here flow pretty well together. I have just about all the Points in Time CDs and this is by far one of the better ones to get.
