At first I got this movie for Mew because Mew is one of my favorite Pokemon. But now my interest shifts to Lucario who is one of my favorite furries (although at this point I put him below Renamon, Tails, and Krystal).
One thing that's odd about this movie is that there's no villains, aside from Team Rocket (who don't play an antagonistic role) and the Regi's (who were defending the tree because they don't trust humans). The whole rest of the movie was sort a misunderstanding; Mew kidnapped Pikachu and Meowth, but was only protecting them from Kidd's Weavile because Mew thought they were out to hurt them when Kidd was really just trying to solve the mystery of the Tree of Beginning.
I think it's ironic that of my five favorite fox furries - Fox, Krystal, Renamon, Lucario, and Tails - Lucario is the only one that comes from a series that doesn't revolve around fights to the death, and Lucario is the only one of the five that dies. Speaking of death, Jessie and James actually die in this movie (though of course they get revived soon after), showing they're not completely invincible when it comes to the supernatural.
Of course I do think the "these Pokemon hate humans" cliche is overused.
As to The Mastermind of Mirage Pokemon, it was all right, I didn't see the twist coming and while Pokemon and Digimon, contrary to popular belief, have little connection or similarities , they do reference each other from time to time (Mirage Mewtwo attacks like Apocalymon). The villain in this movie is pretty dark, a definite Knight of Cerebus. One thing that was cool was to see Misty and May in the same scene (did Misty ever turn up in an episode of May's generation? I kinda stopped watching before that point), although I noticed the voice acting in this movie is different.
The movie itself was fantastic. The special feature packed in with the movie is terrible. The story is great for it, but the voice actors are all different and terrible at their jobs. It's almost unbearable to listen to.
Back to the movie though, the voice of Mew is different which was a huge disappointment for me. Mew in the First Pokemon Movie is the cutest thing in the world with the cutest voice ever. This is a small nitpick though as the rest of the movie is great.
Pokemon fans will love this movie if they loved the others. It definitely doesn't disappoint.
