H1 Heart Rate Sensor

Includes the comfortable H1 heart rate chest strap. The soft fabric chest strap sensor (also called transmitter) streams continuous, accurate heart rate to the FT7 wrist unit.

  • Soft fabric materials adapt to your body shape so you forget it’s even on
  • Convenient side hook mechanism makes it quick to put on when you want to start training and easy to take off when you’re finished
  • Hand washable
  • User replaceable battery
  • Strap material: 38% Polyamide, 29% Polyurethane, 20% Elastane, 13% Polyester
  • Tip: after each workout, detach H1 transmitter, rinse the strap with water and hang dry

The FT7 helps you workout smarter and stay in your zone. Here's how: the FT7 automatically determines your heart rate target zone using your age-based maximum heart rate (220 minus age). When you exercise out of the preset zone, it will give a visual and audible alarm. This real-time guidance motivates you to pick it up or slow it down. Before you know it, you're hitting your target zone, maximizing your efforts, and getting fitter, faster.

  • Continuous, accurate heart rate
  • Average and maximum heart rate of training
  • Manual target zone – bpm (upper limit)
  • Smart Calories: uses your personal data to provide accurate calories burned
  • EnergyPointer: shows whether you are burning fat or improving your fitness during your workout
  • 99 training files (with summaries)
  • Suitable for swimming

How Heart Rate Training Works

The Original Heart Rate Monitor

Polar invented the world's first heart rate monitor and pioneered the Smart Coaching training approach that delivers faster progress and better results. Each Polar product includes unique Smart Coaching features that listen to your heart and interpret the data for you so you can train smarter. Here are the Smart Coaching features included in the Polar FT7:

  • Smart Calories: Lets you know exactly how many calories you've burned during any activity, even playing with children and swimming.
  • EnergyPointer: Shows whether you are burning fat or improving your fitness during your workout

When you exercise, you don’t always have to go faster or harder to get the best results. To reach your goals you just need to workout within the right heart rate intensity zone.

During exercise, there are specific intensity zones, each with a benefit. These zones are based on a percentage of your maximum heart rate- a number calculated by most Polar heart rate monitors. While working out you can use your max heart rate to calculate and follow the recommended zones below. Training in the right zone will help you stay on track to reach your goals.

  • Zone 1 "Very Light" 50-60%: Improves overall health and helps recovery. Recommended for weight management and active recovery.
  • Zone 2 "Light" 60-70%: Improves basic endurance and fat burning. Recommended for everybody for longer and frequently repeated short exercises.
  • Zone 3 "Moderate" 70-80%: Improves aerobic fitness. Recommended for everybody for moderately long exercises.
  • Zone 4 "Hard" 80-90%: Increases maximum performance capacity. Recommended for everybody for shorter exercises.
  • Zone 5 "Maximum" 90-100%: Develops maximum performance and speed. Recommended for fit people and athletic training.

Looked at number of heart rate monitors including the less expensive, Timex, RS100, sportline, and Onmron before settling on the FT7. The item came well packaged, with quick start guide, small manual and was very easy to set up. I really liked the display and the different views during and post exercise summaries (e.g. time in burn and fitness zones). You can easily click through these. The fit of the strap was comfortable. Have used some others that are rigid and go in and out of readings. My use for this is weight management and fitness so it's a fit for my needs. I wasn't sure about the design, the pictures on the sites are not as good as holding it in hand. It looks great. Has two year warranty. Definitely worth the additional cost in my opinion.

This watch is great for finding out how many calories you have burned during your workout. The chest strap is large enough for someone who is an extra large plus.

I have been wanting one of these for over a year and finally found this one on amazon and decided to purchase.
I was worried about them being a pain to use and complicated because I have seen others that are impossible to figure out.
This watch is so basic and to the point, you can view your heart rate as you work out or the number of calories you are burning as well as the duration of your workout. This watch is great and seems very accurate. It logs your workouts and can give you summaries for the week.
The only odd thing that I never expected was that you have to wet the sensor strap before you put it on which is kind of a pain if you're going to the gym.

Overall it's GREAT!

I've been trying to be more active and I was hoping that the calorie count function on this HRM would motivate me to exercise more often and put in more effort when I do. I am not disappointed. I've only been using the device since about October 3rd, 2013, but I absolutely love it. I really enjoy how it stores your workout data (up to 90 sessions worth before you need to start deleting data, I believe). You can select each individual workout and see your time, heart rate data and calories burned. You can also see total values for time spent working out and calories burned - it's really motivational to see those numbers increase each time you use it. The Chest Strap takes some getting used to, but now I hardly notice that I'm wearing it. If you're looking for an HRM with a few bells and whistles, but don't want to spend a fortune, you should give this one a try.

I had a M-- watch before this, those who know about these products know what I'm talking about. You can not even compare the two polar is very accurate getting its information from your heart rate continuously vs when you decide to take it. The difference between the two calculations can be very different. I suggest anyone looking to loose weight by counting calories in and out should buy this polar watch. Very easy to use. The only thing I do not like about this watch is the strap connection, the plastic piece bothers my side. To releave this I just tuck my bra under it. The design would have been better with closure at back, like a bra. In any case I do not regret my decision to purchase this watch and will continue to use polar products throughout my weight loss journey. ITS A MUST BUY LOVE IT

I was pleasantly surprised how easy the FT7 Is to set-up and use as I am older and suffer from Congestive heart failure. I bought the FT7 Heart Rate Monitor to use when I go for walks to monitor my heart rate and to reach a heart rate goal of 92 bpm or more during my walks to get the needed exercise for my heart to try and build up it's strength again. I also found that FT7 heart rate monitor is very accurate as I had checked out at a clinic I attend every week and I had a EKG haltered hooked up for this session and the FT7 Heart Rate readings were exactly the same as the EKG halter monitor I was wearing for the exercise session.I would recommend the FT7 for anyone who is looking for HRM that is easy to use and is very accurate when reading your Heart Rate.

Despite hearing good things about the Polar HRM's, including the FT7, I haven't had a great experience with it. The battery seems to only last a couple of months (and considering I use it no more than three times a week for an hour). I always remove the sensor from the chest strap but still the battery drains. I have bought a new battery twice, after it stopped connecting properly the second time I put it aside and haven't used it. I'm sure there are better HRM's out there, this one was more trouble than it was worth.

On the positive side, when it works, it's easy to use and I enjoy seeing the calories burned throughout a workout as well as my current and average heart rate.
