This scale flipped out on me once, and was flashing all sorts of weird numbers. I wasn't sure what was going on.
That was only one time, however, and since then, it's been performing beautifully. I've started selling on ebay again, and am thrilled that I can use this to weigh very light items. It's extremely accurate, and enables me to buy postage online. So despite that one occasion, I'm really happy w/the scale and I'll keep my 5-star rating -- especially for having paid $19. Will update if things change.
I bought this a few days ago from Costco ($19) and have been loving using it every chance I get! My only experience with kitchen scales is that they're bulky, sometimes have different parts you have to put together, stick out in odd places, and are shaped in such a way that they're awkward to store.
Not this one! it's slim, smooth, is 1 piece, and is super easy to turn on and use. You can quickly switch between ounces and grams if you need to, or use the "Tare" button if you've put a bowl (or prior ingredients) on the scale and want to start from zero again. The on/off button barely takes the light tap of a finger, and you've immediately got this bright, easy-to-read digital screen. It goes up to 11 pounds, which is higher than I've ever seen in a kitchen scale.
(Sidenote: it also occurred to me that I could use this as a postage scale if needed, and avoid waiting in long lines at the post office.)
As another reviewer said, it's really convenient to store; I'd say it's like a hardcover book. For me it makes a *huge* difference working with a basic square that's uniformly shaped/symmetrical on all sides, and nothing protruding. I just turn mine onto its side and slide it between two tall plastic flour storage containers. I'm gentle with it, because I want it to last a long time, so I think this is a safe place for it (rather than putting it underneath or on top of another item).
As a novice cook, I'm just so happy to finally have something like this in my kitchen, within arm's reach at all times. No more wondering how to guesstimate what 8 oz of potatoes would be. Today I came home from the farmer's market with some broccoli, and immediately weighed it so I'd know what I had to work with when I went to look up recipes. I'd never done that before with my other scales, but this one is just a pleasure to use. (When I realized that, I decided to take a moment and write this review. =) )
All of this ease, convenience & functionality, *and* the scale itself is absolutely beautiful, a shiny white glass surface and smooth corners. Highly recommend.
