Review

"It is always a pleasure to open it and I know of no more helpful guide to the mysteries of British politics." - JA rgen Sevaldsen, University of Copenhagen 'It is multi-authored and is able therefore to cover a wider range of topics - social, economic and European policy."...make generous use of diagrams, tables, charts and boxed inserts. These enliven the text, facilitate the assimilation of information and, by pithy and provocative comment, help badger the sleepy mind. Equally welcome... accompanying websites with useful lists of web-based resources. For a computer-savvy generation this is becoming an indispensable aid.'"The Times Higher, November 2004" --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

Book Description

Like the first, this edition covers the core features of A level and first-year university syllabuses - the constitution, parliament, prime minister and departments, voting, parties, the media, pressure groups and local government, in the wider context of British political life. All chapters have been thoroughly revised and new chapters on the management of government services, environmental policy, the EC and the politics of law and order have been added. This edition also has more material on social inequality, elections and voting behaviour, quasi-government and the European dimension of British politics. Concluding comments have also been updated where relevant to cover contemporary issues such as trial by jury for the judiciary and public order.

4.0 out of 5 stars Yet another sleepless night., May 10 2001
This review is from: POLITICS UK, 4TH ED. (Paperback)
Not quite a page turner, but factually correct throughout. Now I've finished reading it, I'm using it to prop up that wobbly filing cabinet in the corner.
