Finally a really down to earth book by a great guy who really loves ponds and has done it all. He gives details way beyond the typical book on ponds. Its clear that he has been experimenting with techniques for a long long time. I own about 25 pond books and this one is absolutely the best and is indispensible. I have learned more from this book than all the others combined. Get this book if you want to do it right the first time, or if you want to learn how to keep a pond healthy. You cant go wrong with this book.

Down to earth Ponding 101, July 5 2002
By Herbert C. McNaspy - Published on Amazon.com

I had already started a small ABS plastic pond before I bought the book. The author has a much larger pond and explains everything about it. He covers it from A to Z.
I am a do it yourselfer and really enjoyed his explanations and innovative ideas.
Eventhough the construction part did not apply to my situation there is plently of other things that do apply.
The author makes no secret that he is giving you his opinion on how to do things and what he likes and doesn't like. For example, he does not like UV clarifiers and prefers to balance the ecosytem to take care of the water borne algae. He states that if the clarifier kills the algae, what elese does it kill but admits that it can kill parasites, etc. that can harm your fish.
Interesting stories of things he had done and mistakes he had made. Not techinical at all but yet it covers about everything.

Therre is no better sense, than common sense, Mar 1 2000

Only some one who understands ponds so intrinsically could explain the process of how to install a the fish pond and the basic system to run it in such easy to follow instructions. Many books on ponds tell you how to do something without really showing you. Not so here. Following the illustrations and the clear concise text, I put a fish pond and built the equipment to run it and I've never done anything more complicated than change the oil in my car. I can't wait to have a BBQ and show it off! The Ponders Bible saved me thousands of dollars. This is a must read for anyone thinking of putting a pond in. Even someone who already has a pond would do himself well to read this book. Salute Mr. Lovgren!
