“…a good read and an even better visual journey.” ~The New York Times

Product Description

The Porsche is the quintessential sports car—sleek, shiny, sexy, and very fast. The striking looks of the car are matched by the machine’s superb engineering and performance, making it one of the world’s great automobiles. In merging the highest standards of design with advanced technology, the Porsche has become a four-wheeled work of art. Now, in a book whose design is as refined and as smart as the car itself, the story of the Porsche unfolds from the beginning as a creation of Dr. Ferdinand Porsche and his son in 1948, through forty-eight models to today’s magnificent examples. Interwoven with the history of the Porsche’s development are factors and events that influenced the development of the company, such as the imprisonment of Dr. Ferdinand Porsche by the French during World War II, the development of the Volkswagen, the ever-changing rules of national and international racing associations, and the marketing genius of people as far away as Chicago. Porsche: The Fine Art of the Sports Car features over 380 pages of text and more than 250 stunning color and 120 historical black-and-white photographs, enabling the history of the world’s beloved sports car to be cherished and enjoyed at home in a stylishly handsome volume.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book, stays on the coffee table so everyone can see it, Feb 18 2012
This review is from: Porsche: The Fine Art of the Sports Car (Hardcover)
Beautiful book. The quality and variety of the pictures is great. Certain special models are missing, and it would have been great to mention the year intervals a model was produced instead of just the first year, but overall, you can either spend hours going through it and reading a whole bunch of racing history and characterics, or you can just pick it up for the 20th time and go through it for a few minutes and admire the amazing pictures.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly Beautiful, Jan 3 2000
By J.P. Godfrey - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Porsche: Fine Art of the Sports Car (Hardcover)
This is by far the best Porsche photo book I've seen. If you want technical info, get Paul Frere's book, but for stunning Porsche photographs, this book is outstanding. A must for every Porschephile's collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost......., Mar 22 2000
By Tommy Penngotti - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Porsche: Fine Art of the Sports Car (Hardcover)
The book is VERY large & is mostly beautiful pictures spanning the Porsche history of classics from the earliest models to the Boxster...a little disappointed that: once again, a Porsche book that focuses a little too much on the 911. No 924 anything? & very little to say about the classic 928! However, the pictures are beautiful & there is some great insight into the history of arguably the greatest sports car ever. You will pick this book up for years & reflect on the beauty.

5.0 out of 5 stars The illustrations are wonderful., April 24 1998

This review is from: Porsche: Fine Art of the Sports Car (Hardcover)
I thought this book is great. It has tons of beautiful color photos and tons of interesting facts. I got a good idea of the history of Porsche. This book also has inside views of a lot of the cars and it had a lot of the technical data about the cars too.
