Wonderful Introduction to Portuguese Cooking,
By
This review is from: Portuguese Homestyle Cooking (Paperback)
Buy this book for the stewed chicken and rice recipe alone... this one was a huge favorite at our house. This book is a great introduction to a wonderful but little-known cuisine, and should provide you with hours of cooking fun. One small caveat: the wine chapter has next to nothing about Port, Portugal's most famous contribution to the world of wine. I'm not sure how the author missed this... she did a fine and thorough job on everything else. But overall a fine book and one which even Emeril's mother Hilda could enjoy :)

This is a beautifully designed Portuguese cookbook. It is well written which makes the recipes easy to follow. The photographs are very nicely done and a pleasure to look at. I highly recommend buying this cookbook for yourself or as a gift. The book is a treasure of outstanding recipes. Every recipe I tried is excellent.

Portuguese homestyle cooking has been a pleasure to read and use. I especially enjoy the section with descriptions of Ingredients, Methods and equipment at the start of the book. I also enjoy the recipe titles in Portuguese and in English as I speak both languages. The book is very well laid out which makes it easy to find the recipe you are looking for. As a child, my family made our own homemade wine. The last chapter of the book is dedicated to wines and includes pictures of old school grape stomping (which we did) and wine presses which was what my father used. Ana has written a book that bring me back to my youth which I always enjoy.
