Product Description

For the millions who suffer from the effects of a traumatic experience, this book offers help and hope and provides the diverse elements needed for lasting recovery. Trauma can take many forms, from the most disturbing of circumstances such as witnessing a murder or violent crime to the subtle trauma of living with the effects of abuse or alcoholism. Deep emotional wounds often seem like they will never heal, but Schiraldi has helped and witnessed survivors recover, grow, and find happiness.

By helping people recognize the coping mechanisms and by dealing directly with the effects of a traumatic experience, there is a great reason for hope. The Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Sourcebook is a guide for both survivors and their loved ones, helping them to see that on the other side of their pain is recovery and growth.

  • Explains the psychic defenses that can go into effect to protect a victim from further emotional harm
  • Provides information on triggers and the debilitating effects of post-traumatic stress disorder
  • Addresses how the healing process can begin and how fear diminishes through a variety of medic and nonmedicinal treatment methods

5.0 out of 5 stars The Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Sourcebook: A Guide to Healing, Recovery, and Growth, Nov 20 2009

(REAL NAME)
This book is extremely helpful and full of information. As a parent of a teenage daughter suffering from PTSD as a result of a sexual assault, this book is an instrumental tool and helping me to understand what she is going through and what I can possibly do to help her heal. For her, it is a sourcebook of information for her condition. One of the best I've seen in my one year search for information on this subject only to usually find very clinical books deemed more for professionals in the field than for the average joe. This book is for the everday person needing help and information. Highly recommend this book.

This book on PTSD is very helpful in explaining the symptoms, remedies, and recommendations for individuals dealing with PTSD. I recommend it to anyone who feels they may suffer from PTSD, as it is a great relief to hear about other cases and symptoms of PTSD. Because of this book, I have realized that I'm not nuts and I'm not alone in my symptoms or in my diagnoses.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent survival guide for anyone with PTSD, Sep 25 2001
This review is from: Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Sourcebook (Paperback)
I had gone through so much sadness, suffering and despair before coming across this book by chance. When I started reading it, it was as if I had awakened from a long coma, as if I was stepping out of a thick fog. Finally everything was starting to make sense! Schiraldi's writing style is clear and to the point, friendly without being patronizing. His description of the illness and treatment methods inspired me strength and confidence, now I know I can beat this thing! I very highly recommend this book to anyone who suffers from PTSD, as well as to all those who study this illness, there's much to learn from it. Thank you, Dr. Schiraldi, you don't know how much your book meant to me!
