This review is from: Pottery Barn Dining Spaces: Ideas and Inspiration for Stylish Entertaining & Everyday Dining (Hardcover)
"Dining spaces" is full of interesting ideas that you can use to improve your own dining area. Ideas on setting a table for entertaining, new ideas on candles-- I particularly like the coffee bean one and the votives in the row of teacups is lovely and even setting up a dining area in another space in your home.
Colours, lighting, organization, storage, and using non traditional dining spaces, (library or den, a dockside picnic and how to work with open plan spaces)are all in there.
I'm not a decorating maven, so I'm delighted by the way they don't assume you know "the rules"
and they don't excitedly tell you to "break" said rules which is a NASTY habit decorators and people who understand decor have of keeping the rest of us out of the fun. (sometimes I uncharitably think it's so they can laugh at our lack of decor sense)
Instead PB books (and I"ve got all but workspaces, kidspace and the new big one soon to be out) all take you by the hand and walk you thru creating;
space (placement of furniture, use of colour, editing)
order (organizing, editing, storage)
light (colour, lighting, candles)
and harmony. (making it flow together in a serene seamless style)
I'm hiding these out of sight where my decorator friends can't find them. I've already impressed one with one of my "ideas". LOL I'm keeping this my little secret along with Lauri Ward's excellent books in my secret stash of decorator wisdom.
