This accessible, down-to-earth guide teaches the invaluable lesson: the more you give, the more you have-and helps you discover the unexpected gifts you are able to offer others (beyond just money!).

When most of us think of giving, we usually think only in terms of time or money, things we would like to share but barely have enough of for ourselves. But we have far more to give than we realize, and we stand to benefit more from giving than we can begin to imagine.

In The Power of Giving, Azim Jamal and Harvey McKinnon take us beyond the idea that giving just means donating money; they expand it to include the giving of kindness, ideas, advice, attention, skills, time, hope, love, touch, and much more. This simple, easy-to-use guide to every facet of giving helps us understand why we should give and what each of us has to give-as well as to whom, how, when, and how much to give. Equally significant as the difference that giving makes in the lives of others is the difference that it makes in our own lives, with benefits ranging from the practical, such as improved health and professional connections, to the intangible, like hope and a sense of connection with others.

Full of personal stories and inspirational ideas, thought-provoking exercises that help the reader discover what they have to give and how to best give it, and special sections on corporate giving, teaching children how to give, giving forgiveness, giving what we need to receive, and giving wisely for maximum impact and benefit, The Power of Giving shows us how the act of giving is a fundamental human need with the power to enrich all our lives. It is a must-read for anyone interested in improving the world, and improving their own lives in the process.

This book is a must read!!! If you want to be inspired then this is the book for you. This book has made a significant impact on my day to day life. The stories in the book are inspirational and make you realize the power you can receive with the act of giving! One of my favorite quotes from the book is, "We may only be one person in the world. But we may be the world to one person?"

If you want to find meaning, fulfillment, and happiness in your life then this book can help you find that and more! Each of us in our own lives faces life situations where we perhaps lose faith in the world and see nothing positive - we are constantly bombarded with disturbing world events, natural disasters, and life-threatening diseases and we perhaps lose all hope...this book reminds us that we each hold the power to create change and impact.

This book will resonate with your innate desire to bring sunshine in the lives of our neighbours. God has given each of us this ability and power to give of our innate gifts and blessings - Don't wait any longer, spread the word and act now!

If you enjoyed the movie, "Pay it forward" then this book is a winner!
Pay it forward by sharing the power of giving with others....

5.0 out of 5 stars The Power of Giving - truly a gift of change. Aug 23 2008
Format:Hardcover
Every journey commences with a first step - often a simple baby-step that feels like a leap. This step is not only necessary, but it's often the hardest one. The Power of Giving, in many regards, is an example of two authors, Azim Jamal and Harvey McKinnon, taking a collective first step for society - a step that will remind us of the importance of collective action and of service. This book represents a foundation that we must build upon to bring about true change in our lives and in the lives of our fellow citizens. Written more like a conversation than a book, The Power of Giving does a good job of providing everyday people - people engrossed with the mundane, but often time-consuming challenges of everyday life - with both a reminder and a building block for serving the other, be it their mothers or mother nature. While generally avoiding the preachy tone often associated with inspirational or self-help books, The Power of Giving carefully stimulates the minds of readers about the important power of giving, while providing them with non-intrusive and achievable steps to make a difference. While this book is not going to change the world on its own, it is, quite fittingly, a gift from two authors who obviously deeply care about empowering each of us to make micro-cosmic changes in our lives that, collectively, will make a macro-cosmic difference.
