5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book Focused On People And Technology Jun 19 2012
Format:Paperback
I just completed this book and was impressed by how clearly it walks a reader through many of the challenges and less understood pitfalls of technology implementations and deployments. Especially those that deal with difficult social decisions, organizing principles, and how to successfully engage users. I am rating it 5 out of 5 stars because I could think of very little I would add or change to make it more effective without distracting or pulling the readers focus from what is important.

What Ruven and his contributing authors Sarah and Michael have provided is an invaluable guide to understanding what can make any technology project more successful.

It is important to note that this is not an academic focused book (though there are splashes of references and effective insights based on extensive research and experience) and is something that I would feel comfortable recommending to colleagues pressured by time commitments and deadlines to still try and read through aspects as even a cursory read delivers helpful insights and tools/techniques that are immediately applicable.

I would recommend this for:
- Someone starting out with SharePoint as a business analyst, project manager, technical lead, or position that involves heavy user interaction.
- Someone experienced who is looking for insights and methods (clearly articulated in the book) for how other experts are approaching these problems.
- Someone looking to validate their own approaches, the importance of 'facilitated' user involvement, and even non "SharePoint" audiences who are looking to better understand some visual techniques and tricks from an experienced consultant in the field.

If you are looking for a more exhaustive book on Information Architecture, Design, or a technical book on SharePoint 2010 this is probably not the book for you. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have for any SharePoint Architect or Consultant Jun 4 2012
By Robert_S - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
The biggest failure for any SharePoint implementation is the failure in Information Architecture. Ruven nails it on the head with this book. It is an absolute must read for anyone trying to implement SharePoint! I've been preaching about IA for years now and this book has justified everything that I keep saying. Thank you Ruven for writing this.

5.0 out of 5 stars MVB - Most Valuable Book Nov 20 2012
By Björn Stenberg - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I've been consulting around SharePoint for the last 5 years and this is the single most valuable book I've come across; and, I've read plenty. It centers around the hardest part of a successful SharePoint project: namely that we loftily call Information Architecture. I like to explain it as mapping how you and your organization think and work to the functionality of the toolbox called SharePoint. Besides describing the problems at hand the author gives us lots of practical examples of how he has worked. I love the hands-on approach to these soft problems. I have been recommending this book to colleagues and customers for a while and will continue to do so.
