1.0 out of 5 stars I wish I could give it zero stars, April 27 2011
By Kelly - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Praxis Earth and Space Sciences 0571 Teacher Certification Test Prep Study Guide (Paperback)
Plain and simple, this book is terrible. It refers not once but TWICE to the abysmal plain of the ocean floor (should be abyssal plain). It is this book that is abysmal... Some "paragraphs" are just random collections of unrelated simple sentences. The test in the back of the book has incorrect answers, and is not at all like the actual PRAXIS exam. If you read the reviews for XAM books in other content areas they are the same--that the books are awful. Bottom line, this book is full of inconsistencies, typos, and information that is simply wrong --not much help if you want to pass the PRAXIS. Save your money.

1.0 out of 5 stars For $60 you'd think they could run spellcheck., Nov 11 2010

This review is from: Praxis Earth and Space Sciences 0571 Teacher Certification Test Prep Study Guide (Paperback)
The spelling errors are annoying (successful is not spelled 'succesful' p107 just for one example) . The grammatical errors make it difficult to read. But the factual errors make using this study guide less effective than just taking the test unprepared ("Dependent variables are those that would be present independently of the experiment" p102. Well, if it is dependent, then it is NOT independent. In point of fact, the dependent variable is the outcome variable that is dependent on the experimental variable.) As if that weren't bad enough, this study guide is not specific to the field of interest (earth science) ("Dissections- Animals that are not obtained from recognized sources should not be used" p.103. I have never even heard of a dissection taking place in an Earth Science class.) Just check out a high school Earth Science book and read the chapter reviews. Those are at least likely to be relatively accurate.
