Review

“The action is riveting, the violence intense and the plot gripping. Score another win for Drake!” (Romantic Times BOOKclub )

“An unflinchingly self-assured first novel, chiseled with subtlety and irony into a darkly suspenseful and blessedly surprising story. In exacting detail, and with prose as silky and enticing as her protagonist, Drake has composed a love letter to the vampire genre. I wish I’d written it.” (Vicki Pettersson )

Nightwalker is an action-packed, stellar debut. Jocelynn Drake will have you coming back for more.” (Jeaniene Frost )

Book Description

Pray for salvation . . .

Pray for daylight . . .

Murder has pulled Mira out of the shadows and back into the living world . . .

As the fire-wielding enforcer of the nightwalker coven wrestles with the mind-destroying ghosts of her dark past, the slaying of a senator's daughter in Savannah threatens to expose her kind to the brilliant light of day. The dawn of chaos has come. The naturi have broken free of their eternal prison to feed on the defenseless and unbelieving of an unprepared Earth.

Mira and Danaus—vampire and vampire slayer—must unite to prevent the annihilation of their separate races. But for Danaus the challenge is intensified, for he must also fight the bori who covets his soul. And Mira, the nightwalker he must protect—whose power is the Earth's last hope—is rapidly going insane.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good not Great, July 9 2010

I love this series. The first 3 books were amazing. This one? Eh.

Danaus comes across as whiny and somewhat Emo. Are nightwalkers evil? Are they? What if they're not? What if everything that he knows about them is wrong? But what if it isn't? But what if it is? Let's explore.

Plus the story of this book left a lot to be desired. Nothing MAJOR happened. It was just a little bump in the road and the antagonist felt a little convenient. "There needs to be something to draw the story of this book out...filler bad guy." And the end made no sense what so ever. I half expected dramatic music to start playing.

My one biggest complaint was the way the characters speak. They all speak the same proper English. Be it a 600 year old vampire, a 1800+ year vampire hunter or an old witch. They all use proper English and long, drawn out phrases. It maybe a minor thing but it gets annoying.

I'm sincerely looking forward to book 5 because I do like the characters and the story is intriguing. This book might be the weakest so far, but the series as a whole is awesome.

3.0 out of 5 stars The cover clues you in!, July 6 2010
By Loving books "Mary" - Published on Amazon.com
Ce commentaire est de: Pray For Dawn: The Fourth Dark Days Novel (Mass Market Paperback)
After the Naturi broke out from imprisonment Danaus goes on a hunting spree when he's called back to Savannah to assist Mira in the investigation of a suspicious murder, but he encounters some disturbing changes in Mira as well as new enemy who can be more dangerous than the Naturi.

In this book we have a change in the POV, the three first books where narrated by Mira, this one is by Danaus, but that's not a surprise since the cover is a good clue, so I was willing to give it a chance since I've always wondered about Danaus' thoughts, well it was refreshing in certain ways, it was still repetitive in the same ways than the previous books, even with the introduction of the new villain that you can easily guess since is Danaus' POV the plot continue to be the same and I don't get the feeling of moving forward, the tension between Mira and Danaus finally progress but not so much as to left you ok with it specially since you have a weird cliffhanger where a new threat is introduced in a bizarre turn of events where both Danaus and Mira were screaming for help to each other, so odd in the leads of a series since I'm accustom to their selfless souls.

If you had read the previous Dark Days novels, you know exactly what you'll be buying with the twist of the POV if you're new to this series, it's ok, a fun fast read to pass the time. Let's see what the end will bring for Mira the vampire fire starter and Danaus the half-human, half-bori in the next month.

2.0 out of 5 stars too much denial - spoiler free, July 11 2010
By T. Moore "TexasITman" - Published on Amazon.com
Ce commentaire est de: Pray For Dawn: The Fourth Dark Days Novel (Mass Market Paperback)
Danaus is the POV for this book in the series.
The author makes Danaus backtrack his character development and explains it away with "self-denial" by the character.
The enemy is tied to Danaus and ID'ed early in the book by him, but again he denies the real threat and does not inform others.
Even when a major confrontation is imminent, Danaus denies the tactical situation and does nothing to prepare to counter the enemies capabilities. ie Tasers and Stun Vests (a vest you can't remove that has a remote activated stun gun built in used for controlling violent people via radio) Danaus has been fighting for over 1800 years, and uses guns and explosives but ignores the non lethal solution to counter his enemies special ability. So good people end up dying needlessly.

DENIAL sums it up for me
So yes I am giving up on this series. Shame because it started out so well and had a decent plausible back story, whereas so many vampire novels don't.
