Product Description

This work seeks to integrate Christian thought and devotion with the viewing of those few films that actually explore the real pain and joys of being human, that look deeply into ethical issues and dilemmas, and that at times enter into worlds far different than our own. In a culture where there are more young adults gathered in the Friday and Saturday night cinema congregation than in church on Sunday morning, Christains must dare to engage the classics of the screen with a Christian mind - indeed, to pray the movies, believing that through them God can speak a word of grace to us and to the world.

About the Author

Edward McNulty is Pastor of Bovina United Presbyterian Church, Bovina Centre, New York. He is author of Controversial Topics for Youth Groups (1992), Let's Go to the Movies (1999), and Films & Faith (1999).

Having been a subscriber to "Visual Parables" for many years, I was delighted to learn about Edward McNulty's book! His monthly reviews of movies in VP has provided me insight for myself along with being most valuable as a sermon and study resource. I have already used "Praying the Movies" in two seminary courses and with great, enthusiastic responses! Congratulations, Ed. I highly recommend this book for sermon preparations, for seminary studies and for adult Bible study classes. It's filled with love, grace and inspiration!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for small groups or just movie lovers, Oct 13 2005

We used this book for a Young Adult Church study group and they loved it not only b/c it was discussing movies theologically and spiritually, but b/c they could miss a session and still be 'in' on the discussion. The book sites old and fairly new movies - classics of all kinds. AND for discussion purposes - it doesn't matter if you see the whole movie or any part of it.
