I have never thought of Ansermet's "La Mer" as among the conductor's best work, but I suppose the folks at Newton know the conductor still has a legion of admirers, and fans will welcome everything they can get, especially when it sounds as good as this. Besides, the late Fifties, early Sixties sound holds up remarkably well.

This CD was very enjoyable. I sat listening to it on my porch with the breeze coming across my face...I can only imagine this was what Debussy was feeling when he wrote this music. It's simply life changing--makes you stop and slow down to appreciate the things around you. I'm taken in by the atmospheric melodies...almost brings you into another world--one of relaxation and peace. Definite clarity from the orchestra and the maestro--executed with great technique and masterful artistry.
