This is music that makes you want to listen, and to do so with great care. Composer Michael Matthews is well known for the fine craft and inventiveness of his musical textures, and these Preludes & Bagatelles for the piano are the kind of music that urges you to slow down and be immersed in a flourishing of musical possibilities.It is a delight to hear pianist Dean Vandewalle exploring these pieces. He brings a combination of delicacy and abandon that serves to open up the music and let the listener in.

I know Matthew's music well and this new release is one of the best. His piano music is well crafted and illustrates at the same time an interesting and a contemporary language together with moving and innovative music. Thanks a lot for this.
