Following up on his well-received book
Prenatal Parenting, OB-GYN Frederick Wirth introduces a two-part program that explains his prenatal exercise/baby bonding ideas and then demonstrates his recommended routine. The 10-minute introduction of the first part interviews physicians, nurses, and moms on the lasting benefits of exercise during pregnancy. Following that is a 10-minute Q & A session with Wirth and exercise physiologist Jeff Harrison in which the pair claim exercising until delivery reduces C-sections, forceps delivery, and Pitosin use--plus provides benefits for the baby from slenderness and serenity to enhanced motor skills and intelligence. Finally, Harrison guides a couple through the prenatal program which features standing push-ups, bridging, pelvic tilts, seated crunches, and squats. The second part of the 82-minute program is the exercise class designed for repeated use. Harrison and a partner lead three other couples through warm-ups, the already-demonstrated routine, and a guided meditation/relaxation or "fetal love break."
