Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

This is a concise but intensive recorded excerpt from a 2002 seminar by the noted spiritual teacher and author of The Power of Now. Tolle, born in Germany and educated at the universities of London and Cambridge, weaves together familiar threads from both Western and Eastern faith traditions into an eclectic tapestry of insights concerning human nature. Tolle guides his audience to carve out new "space," a heightened awareness of the present moment made possible by moving beyond our conditioned thought patterns. The "little me," according to Tolle, represents the sum of our shortsighted perceptions, which left unchecked add up to an all-consuming personal story of pain and conflict that makes embracing the here and now impossible. Tolle deliberately—and effectively—leaves significant pauses between sentences and even individual words. He utilizes these moments of silence to model his approaches for the audience, given that many in contemporary information-age society may have few concrete examples for peaceful reflection in their daily lives. While Tolle holds built-in appeal to New Age spirituality enthusiasts, listeners steeped in the self-help and personal growth genres may also experience enlightenment. (Oct.)

From AudioFile

Tolle's philosophy is relatively simple to understand and offers a perspective on self, others, and the mystery of being. For an introduction to Tolle, there are better choices. Always low-key and understated, his presentation in this book does not have the energy of his other audio presentations, and his understated humor is less prevalent. His intense but extemporaneous style is generally disarming, but in this production it becomes a bit tedious. Generally, there is little distraction from the audience; however, the laughing that is heard at times does not provide the listener with any feeling of inclusion in the retreat and seems quite out of place. NOTE: Repackaging of an excellent program Sept. 19 2006
By NotTakenID - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
In the Presence of a Great Mystery was released some time ago as a 3 CD set (2 hours 49 minutes). It is from Eckhart's Intensive Series. The content is obviously timeless, but those of you who have a large collection, should probably see if you already own it before checkout.

It is recorded live (relax, it was done professionally) and the content is excellent. It's a great program, but I imagine if you have read The Power of Now, you know that and don't need me to explain any further, if you haven't, do yourself a favor and start there.

More Classic Eckhart April 17 2007
By Fred Davis - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I followed Eckhart's every word for two years, and he taught me a lot, some directly and some indirectly. He's simply one of the most effective spiritual teachers on the planet, with the absolute best, most peaceful voice out there. If you're a seeker, seek here. If you're in pain, take these CDs and get some rest. If you're scared, use these to keep the Light on. Peace.

He does it again! April 11 2007
By hawthorne wood - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Eckhart Tolle cannot seem to fail when it comes to imparting to us exactly what we need to hear to make our lives better. Thank you! to my favorite spiritual teacher, for yet another gem in my consciousness. Is it, according to another reviewer, "re-packaged" material? Hey, what isn't? But it's the packaging and the soul of the packager that makes me want to listen, to hear, to stay right in the NOW instead of wandering away with my objectifying "pals" (those voices, voices, voices that add up to nothing in the long run). I love his "halting" phrases, phrases that make you lean forward to "hear" more...and to "hear" the stillness. Love, love, love - this man knows how to love the world. And he knows how to help us love more, too. I'll be playing this CD over and over, and passing it on to other friends who have discovered the joy - and the resulting love - of "inner space."

Same ideas without the inspiration and humor this time Nov. 4 2006

I listened to the entire CD and did not bring anything new. My favorite work of his is 'Living a Life of Inner Peace'. Plus, for some reason Eckhart Tolle here is missing inspiration and humour!

In the Presence of a Great Mystery Dec 11 2008

I Totally agree with "hawthorne wood" of(santa fe, new mexico)
I don't think enough can be said about Ekhart's work. Whether he puts his own "style" of humor to his teachings or it's done in a more serious manner. This is a Spiritual Teacher of OUR times! As far as I see "re-packaging" (as I've heard some comment on) is a Good thing When it's of this caliber! He himself talks about this. The Messages are simple but bare repeating, resonating with each person differently--hence the "re-packaging". Retreats, seminars, readings, "Stories", humor--He's reaching out to try to touch You!! Capture attention!! His Impeckable choice of words/phrases that I could so easily make my mantra for a better Life. I own Almost his Total collection & find that Each one holds something special for me.
