This is a great value. I decided on the Presto after seeing that it cooks at 15lbs pressure and parts are avalable for it at my local homehardware, or online. Getting a new sealing ring can be a problem for PCs that are not as well know. I did look around at PCs locally and saw the aluminum vs stainless steel models. The best overall value seemed to be this model. I've cooked rice in it this afternoon and it turned out great, doing soya beans (for natto) tomorrow. Boiling the beans takes 5 hours, with this PC it should take 30 minutes tops. The 8-quart size is perfect. Means only filling to the 1/2 way make won't be as much of a problem. With free SS-shipping I bought it Wed night and received it Friday morning! Instant gratification! Yes, I need to get out more.

We have had the Presto 6-quart cooker for about six weeks now. It performs well, and I particularly like the pressure control device, which audibly oscillates (rocks back and forth) once the correct pressure is reached. This feature is very useful - other pressure cookers we had just hissed once pressure was reached.
The only negative is the gauge of the aluminum - seems to be thinner than is usual in the pressure cookers we have had in the past. Optimistically, I am assuming that all the necessary stress calculations have been carried out, and there is a large safety factor built-in, so that in the event of a malfunction the safety plug will blow before the vessel!

The 6 quart (4.7L) capacity is a little on the small side, especially for a family, but it is ample for two people.

If you are considering a pressure cooker, I would definitely recommend the Presto 6-Quart

I've used it about 15 times to cook and it's been working really great so far. I do not feel that the rubber inside the screwtop will resist to a great abuse, however. It leaked a little once, just a drop or two, I believe. Nothing to worry about, but that was enough to realize it has at least one weakness that may be disturbing over time.

Generally very satisfied with the Presto brand, which is the only one that can be easily converted to an acrylic curing unit with pressure gauge, adjustable pressure relieve valve and metal stem tire valve for dental laboratory use.
We had the model 0126002 for around 20 years now and it held up until recently when the bottom corroded through.
Keep in mind that I'm using these in laboratory conditions, with water in them almost all of the time, which causes aluminum corrosion over time.

The new model 126408 has the same dimension with the handles re-shaped. They are ergonomically better designed, appear a little less sturdy, but this impression was mostly caused by one loose screw on the lid handle and the main handle was also loose. It's nothing really new that handles need re-tightening, but one wonders if these companies ever heard of liquid thread fasteners.

The appearance and handling of the cooker is very nice. The material thickness on the new cooker was reduced a little. The old one measured 4.3mm lip thickness and in the curve, and the new one 3.8mm to 3.2mm. That's probably still strong enough, but maybe it wont last as long as the old one, in our case. The lid thickness on the old one was 2.45mm, the new one 2.0mm.
Edit: The overall interior size of the pot is 8 5/16" (22.2mm) diameter by 6.5" (16.4mm) high.

An improvement would be a heavier bottom, since this was the place ours failed. But what can you expect to last a couple decades these days?

The 6qt size and height of the Prestos seems just about ideal for cooking anything in the kitchen too. There are some other fancy brands out in the stores, but none has the no-nonsense design like the Prestos.

The 8 quart Presto Aluminum Pressure Cooker is now an indispensable tool in my kitchen. It works exactly like it's supposed to and I've never had a problem with it or the build quality.

The right size for one or two people, this aluminum pot is light weight, easy to handle and great for heavier items, such as potatoes, or for larger quantities. It is easy to use and easy to clean. As a long-time pressure cooker user, I recommend Presto for reliability and uncomplicated design.

Je suis très satisfaite. Enfin un presto qui ne fuit pas. ON peut bien dire ce qu'on vroudra, mais la marque presto reste la marque presto. Il n'y a aucune marque qui équivaut celle ci

Hi,
I recently bought this cooker and have used it two times only but I am really disappointed not because that it does not cook well but because it leaves black stains on hands if you hold it. Not only that whenever you use it for cooking the inside of the cooker turns black and it does not come off even after washing several times. Can someone advise me how to get rid of the black stains and how to avoid black stains on hands when holding the cooker, Thanks.
