4.0 out of 5 stars Same story different day, July 16 2009
By S. Scott "S. Scott" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: A Price To Pay (Paperback)
Okay, let me first start by saying that I do enjoy reading the "View Park" Series. It's cool to read about a different financial class of African American for a change. (No matter how disfunctional) I read the first novel "No More Good" and it was a breath of fresh air. While I can't relate to the Chases superiority complex, wealth or high-profile life-style, I was intrigued by it.

That being said, I continue to what patiently as Ms. Winters creates another set of problems for this family to keep out of the public eye. But this time I wasn't quite as impressed. The novels are about 250 pages each, in my opinion that's rather short, and at $14.00 a novel I would expect to get a least 300 pages.

"A Price to Pay" picks up where each of the other 3 novels in the series leaves off, with the matriarchs of the family (Steven & Janet) pretending that their lives are perfect as their offspring continuing to disappoint them. (with the exception of Leigh)

Carter is still chasing after Avery, who before being convicted by her need to do the right thing, temporarily gives into his charm and sex appeal before calling it off. Michael is still willing to do anything to get approval/confirmation from his father that he will be running the empire one day. He has destroyed his marriage with his selfishness and has inadvertently wounded his twin boys in the process. His wife Kimberly wants out of the disfunctional family but Michael is determined to make her suffer for her past wrongs until he has no other choice but to let her go. Haley, say it with me, is in trouble with the law again and has no regard for anyone.

There wasn't anything that happened that I didn't expect as the characters have become predictable. The novel is a good read and the author talented. I just think the series could have been written in 2 novels instead of four. "A Price to Pay" felt like the 2nd & 3rd novels just a different day.

** NOTE TO ANGELA WINTERS **
Write longer novels, lower the retail price, and make the characters surprise us.

4.0 out of 5 stars Build up, let down!, Jun 10 2009
By Linda Y "always reading" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: A Price To Pay (Paperback)
First, wasted ink even putting Haley in the story. With a daughter like her, Janet can't judge anyone! Carter and Avery, love them! Now, Michael & Kimberly. How disappointing their drama turned out to be. Why give Kimberly all the info about the Chase Beauty/Elisha deal and then not let her do anything with it? She could've bought her own freedom plus garnered the respect of mom & dad for saving the company, then plotted their downfall later.
