Product Description

In post-WWII Canada, Howard and Jean Caine, a young couple with a passion for the broadcasting industry, started their own modest local radio station playing adult contemporary music in the small community of Oakville, Ontario. Located in the land where white oak trees once flourished, they adapted the name for themselves, and like the tree, became legends. Breaking boundaries in the broadcasting business and engineering fields, the Caine family turned a simple philosophy into three flourishing stations: AM 740, CJMR, and Joy Radio.

While the station grew, the Caines endured their share of personal battles, leading them on another journey: the world of charity work. They became leaders in both the broadcasting community and in national and international charities. The Caine family stations have launched the careers of various well-known radio personalities. Today, Whiteoaks is one of the few remaining privately-owned broadcasting groups in North America. Three generations later, the Whiteoaks Group continues to honour its 1956 philosophy: to support the needs of its community. The story of the Caines is interwoven with the history of Canadian radio, and is filled with determination, ingenuity, love, and community.
