Review

From the reviews of the thirteenth edition: "... These chapters are as up-to-date as the latest journals ... Any physician who reads the book may feel no need for specialist referral, but rheumatologists will, in fact, feel more confident and assured as they offer their diagnoses and recommend treatment options ..." (G.E. Ehrlich, JAMA, March 2008) "This primer is designed to provide the most up-to-date information on virtually every disease encountered by rheumatologists and others who treat patients with rheumatologic diseases. … The book is designed for anyone interested in learning in detail about rheumatology. From students to skilled rheumatologists, all will benefit from this reference." (Alfred H. Kim, Doody’s Review Services, January, 2009) "A textbook divided into 44 parts, some with several chapters presenting a complete overview of rheumatology including juvenile arthritis. The description of each entity is divided into epidemiology, etiology including genetics, patho-physiology and clinic. There are many illustrations, tables and references. For students, interns, residents, practitioners and their teachers. The number of editions proves its popularity." (Pediatric Endocrinology Reviews, Vol. 6 (3), March, 2009)

Product Description

This is one of the most prestigious and comprehensive texts on arthritis and related diseases, including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, lupus and more than one hundred others. It offers medical students and physicians a concise description of the current science, diagnosis, clinical consequences, and principles of management. New and expanded chapters heighten the translational nature of this edition. Students, trainees, and practicing clinicians all need a standard textbook that can change with the times and reflect recent strides taken in understanding and treating rheumatic disease. The Primer fills that need.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST in Rheumatology, Sep 29 2009

Well I owned a very old version (early 1980ies; half of an inch thin!) and decided to look for a more recent edition I could refer to instead of looking for a recent review of a rheumatologic subject each time I needed one. I was amazed that it still existed and much more surprized by how thick the most recent edition was ! Well it is still comprehensive and well written. I'll surely recommend to my gray hair peers as well as to younger colleagues !

4.0 out of 5 stars An old book title, now with new aspect, Mar 23 2008

This has been an official publication of the arthritis foundation, offering guidelines and a concise, though complete overview on the rheumatic diseases and its approach. This new edition offers a more attractive text to be studied, printed with special paper and colour photos, missing only specific chapters about the drugs used in Rheumatology. Still a great book as well as a reliable source of information for those engaged in the treatment of the rheumatic patients

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource, Oct 1 2011

There are two Primers which an Internist would benefit most with, Primer of Kidney disease and This one. Lucid writing and valuable information ! Incorporates recent information and guidelines, a valuable book. Will benefit a medical student with interest in Rheumatic diseases and the Internist for sure ! I guess the Rheumatologist would also find it a useful revision.

Used to be free dangit. The new version is an improvement though. The most helpful reference and review for Med student or resident on rheumatology. Not too detailed, but enough extra info some rheumatologists don't even know.
