1.0 out of 5 stars Really disappointing, July 22 2009
By Actor, Dancer, Techie "Avid Book Buyer" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Of Princes & Beauties: Erotic Fairy Tales for Adults (Paperback)
Perhaps it's just me (and my wife) but this series of short stories just didn't cut the mustard. I saw what the authors were trying to do, I just don't think they did a very good job ... save for one story.

And I have trouble giving a good rating or review to a work of art if the characters in it aren't ones I care about ... and (save one story) I didn't care a fig about any of these.

Here's a piece by piece run down:

*The Frog Prince by David Laurents - Opening poem. I got the symbolism. Kind of cute.
*Stone Kiss by Gary Bowen - A fairly in-depth look at the psyche of a budding ruthless tyrant. Interesting character study but disturbing to read.
*Someday My Prince Will Come by Evan Hollander - Standard, sophomoric silliness. Sounds like it was written by a 19 year old college boy.
*The Frog Prince by Wanda Wolfe - A rather boring, step-by-step, how-to for gay men fresh out of the closet.
*Dictation by E.R. Stewart - Hard to describe. The only part of this that I thought had any originality was the teleportation scene. Other than that; meh.
*Beauty and the Beast by Wanda Wolfe - This is the "one story" I alluded to earlier. I found the characters human and I cared for them. Beyond that, a fairly standard variation on the theme where the ultimate love seems to be expressed via sexuality. Since I can't give an item 1/2 a star, this story earned the 1 star I've given this book.

In general, my thoughts while reading these stories were generally; "Man, I'm reading about someone having an orgasm and I'm NOT having an orgasm."

If you're reading to find some good descriptions of sex, this is your book. (My wife and I were expecting more.) Otherwise, pass it by.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun retelling of old themes, Mar 10 1999
By J. McChesney - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Of Princes & Beauties: Erotic Fairy Tales for Adults (Paperback)
Although not breaking any new ground in the fantasy genre, this short collection of stories makes for a fun and sometimes romantic read. The first fiction efforts by Wand Wolfe particularly capture the spirit of the traditional fairy tale ("Frong Prince" and "Beauty and the Beast").

Editor Cecilia Tan has put together a nice blend of stories that encourages me to read more of her anthologies.
