An amazing movie with more twists and turns than Chubby Checker. A white-knuckle special until the very very end. Although it is a very dark story, it has its shining moments of hope and goodness. Acting is superb -- Jake Guylenhall (sp?) completely out of his usual upbeat character. Hugh Jackman is ferociously wonderful. Viola Davis genuinely moving. Terrence Howard's performance takes your breath away. One of the best mystery movies ever.

`Facing any parent worst nightmare is the abduction of there child or anyone for that matter"
"But this one,"Prisoners" is a movie I'm having a hard time with" just for it's lack of Police investigation,
and the circumstance of two missing children, who lives down the street from the accused perpetrator,
or suspect, as we seem to think he is, having seen so many movies on this subject and T.V. shows that
would not hesitate to tear his aunt's house apart, to try and find any evidence of foul play, what I'm saying,
right away they give you a suspect and no really hard investigation, the only thing you get is one angry Farther,
and rightly so , which the whole movie is based on, you know sometimes when your anger takes over your brain
you never ever think clearly, and that's a dam fact that no one can detest, I can really attest to why it was called
Prisoners, they were many here, his friend and his wife to name a few, even the investigating officer [Jake Gyllenhaal]
who was a prisoner in his own mind as what to do, now that he is confronted with the daunting task of finding these two
kids, the movie has a lot of really high tension moments and suspense, like edge of your seat, there's some very brutal scene to
the movie as well, that would make you cringe and to make you question your own Morales as what you would do in a case
like this.. the thing that bothered me the most is everyone seem to play second fiddle to the main character, Dover [Hugh Jackman]
1.85:1 1080p High Definition.
5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio.
Runtime 153 Minutes.
I Really Love It. All The Way Through.

Format: DVD
Keller Dover (Hugh Jackman) hunts deer the first day of hunting season. In Pennsylvania, that is Thanksgiving. His family walks over to the Grovers to celebrate the Holiday. While there, Franklin Grover (Terrence Howard) decides to entertain with his trumpet and the next thing you know their young daughters are missing. The son recalls a van nearby that the girls wanted to play on. The police (Jake Gyllenhaal) quickly get the van and the driver (Paul Dano), but it is clean and the driver "has the mind of a ten year old." To the dismay of Keller, the police let him go with the expected vigilante results by Keller.

As it turns out the tale is slightly more twisted than on the surface.

I will say the acting is good, but we have seen so many films of this genre they clearly ran out of catchy names and simply called this one "Prisoners" allowing the viewer to make everyone a prisoner either physically or of the mind. Yawn. I really liked the "Dirty Harry" version of this genre. Go ahead. Compare the dialog. Make my day. It took both Jackman and Gyllenhaal together to do what Eastwood did better by himself.

I am not saying this is a bad film, by no means. It is certainly worthy of a rental, especially if you like to see parents lament over their missing child. I just can't see shelling out a lot of green for a film that will remembered as a trivia question.

Parental Guide: F-bomb. No sex or nudity.

Bought this Blu-ray because of the actors and wasn't disappointed in the acting or the story. A disturbing story, sensitively told and acted.

People keep saying this movie is dark, which it is, but it's reality. Reality isn't sunshine and rainbows. This movie is very boring. Nothing exciting because the characters are flat and story bland. Sure some great acting, but that's it.
